Do any iOS parental controls actually work well?

Hey folks. Looking for some advice. We’re trying to find an iOS (iPhone) parental controls app that allows us to both:

  1. Block individual apps (not just blocking internet access for those apps)
  2. Setup multiple downtime schedules throughout the day

So far the best we’ve found is Apple’s own screentime solution. This allowed us to block any app (although you can’t block the free “have 1 minute more” feature, which is silly) however it only allows you to have one period of downtime per day.

The other apps we’ve tried, including Qustodio, Famisafe and Net Nanny, can’t block any single app, they can only block apps by age ratings (e.g. only allowing apps suitable for 4+, 17+ etc..). When they say that a single app is blocked they actually just removes the ability for that app to access the internet. Otherwise the app is fully functional, which for some apps means it is useless.

Has ANYONE PLEASE found a solution to this problem? Right now I think our best bet is to stay with Apple’s ScreenTime and just manually enable / disable for other downtime periods throughout the day.

Thanks,

Robin

How old is the child? When ours was younger we only allowed him to have the phone when it was the allowed screen time and when I had it I could check for any app etc that I didn’t want on there and then we discussed it. Maybe because I am so untechy - now he’s the one sorting my phone out for me!
