Good DSLR for a beginner?

Wondering what a good DSLR Camera would be for a beginner? I'd like it for taking photos of my baby / family but also landscapes . I'm thinking a Canon but don't want to go nuts money wise as I am a complete beginner and it would be more of a hobby while I'm on maternity leave.

Are you wanting to buy new, or would you consider 2nd hand? And could you be a bit more specific about your budget if possible? The price ranges on cameras are huge. This linked page looks at some entry level options, new, if that's any help? They tend to be Canon or Nikon these days. I started out a few decades ago now with a 2nd hand Pentax!

Btw someone will tell you that the latest iPhone and android phone cameras are absolutely brilliant! I did promise myself to do some research, but I do love the feel of holding a real camera and having it round my neck.

It’s impossible to say without knowing your budget. I’d suggest looking at mirrorless cameras rather than a dslr though.

also be aware that the sensor size of your camera will impact the size and weight of your lenses

I started with a GX9 mirrorless, which has a micro 4/3 sensor size when my kids were babies, but now have a Sony full frame a7iii. The full frame lenses are significantly larger and heavier.
