Ring doorbell drained overnight

I checked my doorbell battery on Wednesday night and it was at 76%. No motion or drop in WiFi connection overnight that I'm aware of.

Thursday a person at my door but I didn't get notification so I checked the app and it stated its not connected to the WiFi, but the last health check at 7.55am showed 76% battery still.

I couldn't get it to reconnect so tried plugging it into the charger, it flashed up on the app that it was at 0%!

This is now the third time time I've had to charge it since I bought it in February.

I do have to have the motion sensors on high so that any motion around my car is picked up, but other than the postman coming and a cat maybe twice a week, there's not much motion for it to record as I'm in a bit of a cul-de-sac so no passing traffic or people walking by.

Does anyone know why it would drain so quickly?

How old is it, perhaps the battery is no longer holding a charge?

I only bought it beginning of February.

I think my best option might be to get an additional camera to cover the driveway and just have the doorbell for the door. Because of the way my drive is laid out I've had to set the motion zone to a fairly large area. That way I could change the settings so it uses less batteries, but I had hoped the battery would last longer than it has been doing.

Though previously it did drain gradually and let me know it was low, this time its almost drained completely overnight with no warning.

It does sound like the battery is failing. As it's so new could you get it replaced under the warranty?

I find having to keep batteries charged un-feasible. Is there anyway to get power to the door area?

There are now lots of alternative smart doorbells that don't require batteries or subscriptions.

First of all, take no notice of the % charge it says on the app. Mine can be charging and the damn app won't update in real time. I have it set to email me when it's running low so I charge it then.

But you bought it beginning of Feb, its now end of April, so you've had to charge it 3x in almost 3 months which is about right. I have workmen constantly pinging it right now and have to charge it almost every weekend, but normally maybe 3-5 weeks between charges and its a quiet area that sounds similar to yours.

Surely charging your doorbell every weekend is a PITA?

I get notifications when it's running low, but I didn't this time. Only realised it was flat because I checked it when I didn't get notification that the postman was at the door!

It's the 4th charge if you include the initial charge to set it up. I didn't realise it drained that fast though. I thought I'd bought one where I could change the battery but realised I hadn't when I opened it.

I'm mainly concerned about it going from 70 odd to 0 in such a short space of time. Last charge was only two weeks ago.

I don't think hardwiring would be suitable as the nearest plug socket is a long way from the door so would require an extension lead and would need to go under the living room door.

I might look to an alternative when the subscription ends, but when I looked initially this did seem to be the best fit for me.

The app doesn't seem to sync in real time, so it probably wasn't really at 70%. It seems like it just updates the battery % at random times, it's really annoying.

I've charged it up again and will see how it goes. I appreciate the app won't be accurate and could unsterstand it if it was showing a lower percentage before it died. But the health check at 7am showed 76% and it was only a few hours later that I noticed it wasn't working.

Have similar with mine aswell.

The batteries on them aren't that good.

The cameras are the same

I have to remember to take cameras and doorbell down most weeks to charge them.
