I'm going round in circles trying to find a printer. I need good quality colour printing mainly with the odd photo or 2. I don't like hp so not that. Please help!

Just seen this - I have a Canon MG7751 which I'm very pleased with.
I've had it for about 8 years (I think) - they don't make this model any more!
I've just had a look at the current range of Canon printers and if I had to replace it I'd choose the PIXMA TS8350a - I want good quality document and photo prints and I prefer multi individual inks.
Good luck - Let me know how you get on.

Thank you for your reply. I didn't see it before I purchased so went with the Epson ET-2820. Canon hadn't really been on my radar but looking at that one I'm wondering if I made the right decision. I haven't used it yet so could still return, will have a bit more of a think so thank you!

I nearly took a cricket bat to my Epson Xp 610 yesterday... just saying

(and not for the first time)

@jagley Yes, it can be difficult to choose - one wades through the various reviews - trying to weed out the 'fake reviews' written to make one choose the item you're lookin' at - and the 'nutter reviews' - "I couldn't get it out of the box so I sent it back".

I know one person who wouldn't choose a Canon again and two who wouldn't choose an Epsom again. Years ago I spent a long time reading, picking and choosing and re-reading and making notes - then I realised two weeks had gone by and still I didn't have a printer! I can't remember what finally made me choose Canon - it was probably the 'automatic double sided printing' and the multi individual inks.

Good luck.

Thank you both. I'm thinking the epson will be going back. There are so many options you just get lost I think. @DanFmDorking Do you find the ink lasts long with the Canon? That is what really pulled me in with the Epson.

@Jagley It's impossible to compare ink usage/pricing across machines - it's totally dependent on number of pages printed - documents or pictures - quality and size of the pictures - usage and size of ink cartridge/container - someone else can construct the Excel formulas to work lot that out.

I print one or two pages every two weeks for me - about thirty pages every six months or so for an organisation I'm involved with - and about 200 pages every two years for another organisation I'm involved with.

It you're printing quite a lot I suspect the Epsom system might be easier - although you'll (probably) be paying full price for the Epsom ink.

I get a low/yellow warning when the ink cartridge gets low (clever eh?) and a red/empty warning when the ink cartridge gets, er, empty.

I order a new cartridge as soon as I get the low warning - see postage times below.

I get my compatible toner ink cartridges from www.internet-ink.com - I find their ordering process and prices the best - after 3 orders (I think) you get an extra 10% off your order and sometimes at Christmas you're offered 15% off.

The only slight problem is that I must not update my Printer's Firmware - this is what Canon do to force you to use only Canon cartridges although there are ways round this.

Hope this all makes sense!

I have an Epson ET2750. Quality of print is excellent. Inks last for ages. Very cheap to run. I do a fair bit of printing for all the family, mostly black and white but I'm a crafter and the colour printing is brilliant. The only thing I can really fault is that the paper feeder guide is very difficult to adjust. I usually just eyeball it if I'm dealing with smaller than A4 sizes.

I had a Canon previously, it drank ink, was constantly refilling.

Prior to that I had a Lexmark which I loved but the software updates were discontinued and it was no longer compatible with my desktop.

@DanFmDorking Thank you for all the detail, it's very helpful all lots to think about! Good to know about updating firmware and compatible/non-compatible inks.

@SageRosemary Thank you for another pov. I'm also a crafter so thats really helpful to me.
