'System File is Damaged' on Apple MacBook. A scam?

'(13) Malicious Virus Detected' is the follow up, and 'Turn on your anti-virus'.

Others mention McAfee anti-virus software which I never signed up for to the best of my knowledge. Foolishly, I did access a website that was 'Not Secure' in the last few days.

But is this a scam? When I clicked on one of them, I got this (see attachment):

Do I click on this, is it from Apple, or is it a scam that will instead unleash hell on my MacBook?

It's a scam

Do not click on it.

Thanks. I did not click on the screenshot I posted - however, when I looked into the matter elsewhere, one site suggested I go into Systems Preferences, Security and Privacy, then make sure the Firewall is 'ON'. It seemed to be off, so I put it on. Don't know how that happened.

I did that a few minutes ago and I'm still getting those pop ups. I had a day without it, by deleting my history and a few other things. But today it's back.

Any ideas how to get rid of these pop ups, anyone?

Download a couple of ad blockers from reputable sites

Those little pop up windows are effectively ads

However, some news sites will ask you to switch off ad blockers (Guardian, I'm looking at you)

Thanks @Gingernaut - can you recommend any reputable sites that would be good to download ad blockers from? Are they free? Obv I ask because otherwise I could sign up to another scam, by approaching the wrong sites!

AdBlocker is one.

You can download a half decent free version, but you can upgrade for a fee
