Parental Control help for gaming addict husband?

Hello,
This is my first post on the net asking for help for my husband - who has asked me for help and knows he has a serious problem with gaming.

My question is: is there a way for me to have control eg. parental control software, linking our laptops, so that I have the password or access control. Or any options really.

This is the first step, he knows he has a problem and is grappling with the psychological side.

For work he has to use a MacBook Pro with Monterey OS. (Windows). With MS Edge version 114.1823.67. He says the Edge browser bypasses the proxy and gives him direct access to game sites.

If necessary he will speak to tech at work and enquire but would prefer not to have to bring it up.

Anything at all including links would be appreciated.

Thank you very much.

I can’t help with the tech side but think carefully about your role in this. He is doing what addicts frequently do, which is to shift some of the responsibility for HIS addiction on to someone else. It is not your problem to solve.

OP, maybe ask for this to be moved to the Relationships board? There will be people there who have experience of this.

Are we talking gambling here? Or are you using "gaming" as a code word for something else? Most games on PC, outside of gambling, are not played on websites, you have to install them on the machine itself. Unless he's got a very permissive IT dept (or is in tech himself) work should have his work laptop locked down enough so that he can't install any games on it.

If it is gambling then I would suggest cutting off the means to pay for it. The problem with anything website based is that there are way too many ways to get to a website. Cut off the work PC, he'll dig out an old laptop. Cut if off at the internet connection, he'll hotspot on his phone. When you think you've got everything you find him at 3am on the web browser on your smart fridge connected to your neighbours wifi. That's the rabbit hole of addiction.

But if it's gambling, or the "other thing" I'm thinking it might be, it all stops once he stops pouring money into it.
