I'm a freelance offering a service. I have a simple website that a friend created for me and has been hosting along with his own for a few years. Now he is relaunching his website, and won't be able to host mine any more - it is out of date and will break up or disappear in the next couple of days. He has sent me a pdf of mine and I also have screen grabs. I have a Go Daddy domain name. I could get them to host it. If I pay for a year, what happens then? Do I have to create a new site or can I upload my pdf? Any ideas of the best way to proceed? I'm clueless. TIA.

Does this help at all - I suspect it might not sadly but it might offer some pointers.

You can't just upload a PDF. Ask your friend to forward all the contents of your site, in their directory tree. If he's willing to help you, the easiest thing would be to give him the login to your Godaddy and ask him to set it up for you. Should only take him 10 minutes or so.

Thank you both. @GarlicGrace He's already told me to find someone locally to help. He lives abroad now and doesn't want to/doesn't know how to do it, I suspect. But I could suggest it and see. Thx.

Do you know what platform he created the website on - Wordpress, wix etc?

There is no such thing as a PDF website, but depending on the platform he used, he might be able to export the existing website so it can be imported to a new hosting platform. Wordpress hosting sites for example are quite inexpensive.

What you're paying GoDaddy for is just hosting your site - reserving the domain name you've chosen and providing the storage space for the data you want to show customers.

You'll need something else to design the site itself. As PP said, Wordpress is not expensive, and you can get it as an add-on to your GoDaddy account. It's pretty basic, but it sounds like that's what you want. When I was freelance I used Wix, which has more bells and whistles, but cost more.

What services can you recommend to ensure reliability, stability and high performance of servers? Good technical support is also important to me.
