Laser printer for occasional home use?

We've recently had to bin our inkjet printer because despite cleaning the heads it wasn't printing properly. Postage labels weren't able to be scanned due to the poor quality, I had to write over bits at text that were missing etc.

I had a local chap come to look at it who condemned it and said I would be better off with a laser printer.

The trouble is we only use it very occasionally at home. I've recently started selling on Vinted so it will be used mostly for postage labels and the occasional document.

Is a laser printer worth the expense for the infrequency it will be used? Will I still have problems with it drying out if it doesn't get used for a while?

We don't have a printer at home any more. Completely pointless

I used the lockdowns to check whether we really needed a printer for anything nowadays. It's seems not

Our local village post office prints the labels themselves. There is a print shop in the nearest town we could use but generally, nothing is needed.

We have a Samsung colour laser. It is used once a week maybe, less often sometimes. It is much better than the ink jet for occasional use.

Absolutely get a laser printer if you can. They use toner powder rather than ink, so drying out needn't be a concern.

For example; I bought one about 18 months ago and am just about starting to reach the end of the little starter cartridge.

We bought an HP colour laser from our local Staples store just before it closed. Ex-demo, unused but no manuals or packaging. Much reduced price. This was 2015 and the (half capacity) starter cartridges lasted 5 years! That's how occasional our use pattern was (and is). Bought replacement non-HP full capacity cartridges from StinkyInk in 2020, still showing 80%. I'll never buy an inkjet again. The laser would have been a good buy at full list price, Found an Epson inkjet printer put out on a front wall with no cartridges. It has a scanner on top and if you connect it to a computer via USB it works fine as a scanner. On wi-fi it refuses to do anything, even scan, until you put Epson cartridges in.
