Buying an iPad for an Android user?

MIL has a big birthday and I want to buy her an iPad. She has been saying for years she wants to buy herself one but it's never been a priority for her.

She is very non-techie and currently uses an Android phone . I am wondering if when she refers to an iPad she means any tablet (my Uncle refers to his android tablet as his iPad!) I'm not asking though as it needs to be a surprise.

We want to get her something wonderfully responsive and easy to use which in my experience means Apple as I'm in that system myself. But is it likely to cause her issues as an Android user? DH (Android himself) thinks so whereas I think an iPad is stand-alone brilliant regardless.

I agree that by ipad, she means tablet and an android interface is going to be much easier for her. She'll know how to use the apps etc and is more likely to get good use from it. A Samsung or something similar (possibly the same as her phone?) is would be ideal.
But this is coming from an android user! I do find in real life, IME, apple users can't comprehend that ipads aren't the best (not saying this is you!) but it totally depends on user need.

I have an Android phone and an iPad tablet and I find the Android much more intuitive - so I'd say if that's what she's used to get her Android. Means she can use the same charger, etc as well. Also you can normally get a much better spec for the same money if you avoid Apple!

I'm an android phone/android tablet person. Really struggle with ipad after using android, so she'll definitely find it confusing. I have a this one:

I've an Android phone and tablets and an iPad. iPad is rarely used these days. I bought my none technical mother an Android tablet which at first she thought was beyond her but now she's using every day and thinks it's amazing. She's in her 80s.

Personally I don't think Apple are that user friendly if you're not used to how they do things. Plus they're expensive.
