Web Design Question

I plan to start up a small hobby business and hope to create a website to feature something else I've been working on (don't want to say what, might possibly be outing). On the website, I want a page as a link to my Etsy shop. I am planning to outsource web design (with images I have created and layout ideas etc) and I have found someone who can do this at a reasonable rate (and has been recommended). So far so good.

I am currently in the process of asking someone to put together a logo. They have said that within the package (which again seems reasonably priced and comes with good reviews), that they offer the option of producing a web header (the banner that goes across the top, presumably to be used on shop page of website) or an Etsy cover (the banner that goes across the top). Uncertain which of these options to choose and whether, if I went for the Etsy cover, web designer could do something with the files that will be sent to me for the website?

Anyone? I really am relying on others to put my technology in order and I am uncertain of which way to proceed with this and what is possible.

If I were you I'd ask them for a price for both the Etsy banner and website banner.

Thanks Lime. I want to keep costs to a minimum. I am inclined to go with the Etsy image and see if I can create my own Web image.

  1. You could have one image and then do the other. But you have to get hi resolution VECTOR image. Then it will be possible to change dimensions practically without loosing the quality.

  1. For the any web page (Etsy, Facebook, twitter &so on) you need to know dimensions of the graphic. For example Insta post is 1080x1080px, twitter post - 1024x512. You could see it's hard to make one out of the other. The same thing is with logo/banners on different platforms. But if you do N1, then you could "shrink" the image. But if the shape is different, you have to do something like adding the edges...

  1. If you really want to save the money - get yourself selfhosted site with wordpress, find free theme (there're like millions to choose) and start writing. Nobody really cares if you have really special design, because it's so many websites around, they all look like something that is already been done. What you should really think of is functionality of the site. And why you have it. Maybe you don't really need it, there are a lot of people who sell their works without websites, they do Facebook/Insta/Etsy, + use twitter for announcement. It all takes time. Website takes time too. All these writing... Anyway, as for design... If you still want website, it's better to "experiment" on something really cheep, like free wordpress theme so you will figure it out what you need from your website. And only after that order paid design. And keep in mind, any kind of CMS for website will be updated. Even if you have site on pure html, sometime updates happen. So you need a plan of what to do after such updates. For the option I described early, wordpress is updated, the only thing you need is to click "update" button. (better if you check the community if it is stable). Those free of freemium themes I mentioned, the creators are updating it themselves, just make sure that the theme is updated regularly and answer on support questions. But if you buy something from somebody who is doing it just for you, only this time, you might be charged for any update after that. Or, if you want to change something on the site and you don't know how, you might be charged (with wordpress it's easy to do yourself).

You need to get familiar with a site called Canva. You can make amazing professional stuff for yourself for free such as headers. I couldn't live without it!
