Nose Piercing

I’m in my 40s, if that’s relevant, and am considering having my nose pierced and getting a tiny stud. I only have 3 lobe piercings at present.

I’m put off though by things that l have read about aftercare and the possibility of 6 months healing. Is it likely to take that long? I love to swim (sea and pool) and summer is coming how restrictive/awkward is it likely to be?

I’d also like to get my nipples pierced at some point in the future but one step at a time.

I should add that in the past l had a naval piercing and the body rejected it twice. ‘Grateful for any words of wisdom. x

No words of advice, but my sis, niece and DIL all have nose piercings and have been fine. I had a naval piercing that my body threw out in disgust along with five attempts of top of ear piercings (forget what they're called!).

But go for it! At worst, you'll end up disappointed or, at best, you'll have a fab new piercing! I'm in my 50s and it's a case of 'sod it, I'll do it'!

Yes it can take that long but everybody is different. The sea is salt water so I don't think it'll do it any harm tbh. Swimming pools might be less hygenic but should be fine if you clean/soak it (gently) afterwards.

Depending on how you swim (stroke wise) is keeping your head out of water an option in the pool at least?
I would say go for it. Get all the piercings you want. Take some saline spray and clean them as soon as you are out of the water.

Thank you good people. Most helpful. I’m going to go for the nose, l want the smallest diamond like stud you can buy. And then if all goes well, maybe one nipple at a time.

l have no concern about the needle just the healing process (just says she!).

Spookily, I am also in my forties, had my nose pierced just over a year ago and had belly button piercings rejected twice when I was younger. I also had my nose pierced with a gun when I was younger and it rejected.

This time I had my nose pierced with a needle and it was absolutely fine. I have had no issues whatsoever. I kept the larger piercing stud in for the first six months before swopping it out for something next guage down. I wouldn't go too small (even though these are available) as they often aren't good for a nose piercing and can cause problems.

Couldn't advise on the nipple piercing I'm afraid!

40's here too, nipples but no nose!

If i was you i'd have a think about having your nipples pierced at the same time as the nose, if you're going to maybe have a 'careful' period of taking extra care with sprays then why not do it all at once?

StarlightLady · 18/04/2024 08:21

@Confused118 - Thank you! On reflection, l think l’d rather go for one thing at a time, nose first and see where we go from there.

I have both sides of my nose pierced and never had any problems with them healing and I changed from a stud to a ring after 8 weeks. Also have both my nipples pierced, one did get infected after I caught it on my bra strap 😫 but healed quickly with some antibiotics and haven't had any problems since.

Elphame · 18/04/2024 11:07

Had mine done in my 40s too. Initial surface healing was very quick but it was a lot longer before I could change studs quickly and painlessly.

Don’t fiddle with it and just rinse in the shower!

StarlightLady · 29/04/2024 15:28

Thank you to everyone for their advice and support. I’ve decided to go for the slowly-slowly approach.

l’ve an appointment to have my nose pierced (with a needle) on Friday. If all goes well with the healing, l will then consider one nipple at a time.

l’ll report back on the nose and let peeps know how it goes.

I got my nose done in January. Small diamond stud (aurora borealis it's called, like a little rainbow when the sun hits it right, so sparkly)

I'd a wee bit of infection but it was my own fault for poking and trying to clean my nose.

It settled well but I still haven't changed it yet. I'd like a wee hoop.

Hope all goes well. Mine was with a needle too, some said pain 8/10 but genuinely, after the initial eye watering shock it wasn't sore at all. I'd say 4/10.

StarlightLady · 04/05/2024 10:24

Well, my nose was done yesterday. I have just a tiny “diamond” that glistens in the light. It hurt when the needle went through, but it was fine after that and went out for dinner with a friend to celebrate. The piercer was lovely. We discussed nipples for the future, but l’ll see how this settles first. And then maybe, if all is well, one at a time.

’Going back in 4 weeks for the current “bar” (l don’t know correct piercing terminology) to be replaced with a thinner one.

l’ll report back on progress.

I’m pleased to report, one month later, that my nose piercing is absolutely fine. I wish l’d had it done years ago. The jury is still out on getting my nipples done though. I really want it, but l’m concerned with things going wrong. I also usually swim 2-3 times per week.

I just got mine done too. I was surprised at how painless it was! And I love it! It's given me no grief at all. My ears were more troublesome!

❤️ Lovely! I still get a surprise when l look in the mirror though.

Oh me too. I can't believe it's there! I keep forgetting it is as I can't feel it.
