Tattoo: good idea or mid life crisis?

I’m heading for a big birthday and I’ve been thinking about getting a tattoo for a while. The tattoo itself is something very meaningful to me. My only hesitation is that I have a fairly senior professional job, and DH isn’t keen. If I go for it will I spend the rest of my life regretting it, feeling conscious, and trying to cover it up?

But what's your decision???

My friend has a few that she had done from the age of 50 to 53. We went out over Christmas to a dressy event and you could see her tattoos in the dress she wore. For the first time she said to me she’s not as keen on them any more.
Ignore your DH.

@AcridAndStanLee I’m going to wait a little bit and not link it to my milestone birthday, but almost certainly get it done.

Great decision.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 17/02/2024 23:55

Why not get it done in henna first? See how you like it?

LongDriveway · 17/02/2024 23:58

I don’t like tattoos, but if you were sure, I’d say go for it. You’re not, so I’d wait until you’re sure.

Had my first tattoo last wk, I'm 55. Soooo happy!!! Sooo happy I finally had the courage to do what I WANT!! What anyone says about it is NONE of MY business!!!!! :) :) :)

FunkyMonks · 20/02/2024 10:21

No regrets here each to their own.
I love my tattoos had my very first at 18 then a few more in my early 20s and then started up again in my 30s I don't have them on my arms but both legs are slowly getting covered I've got one on my back and my side.
And I also have a love heart on my wedding finger as i don't like wearing my wedding rings etc.

You get one life and so long as what you get tattooed isn't offensive or going to cause upset I say go for it.

Oh yeah definitely go for it!

I just recently got a new one and a new piercing and I don't give a single fuck if it's a midlife crisis; for me it's more about making me look on the outside how I feel on the inside. I just feel closer to the me that I really am.

Do it!

Brefugee · 20/02/2024 14:01

i have loads. They seem to be getting progressively bigger. The early small b/w ones aren't blue and some are over 30 years old.

I have a senior professional job and in long sleeves you can't see any. In summer, with short sleeves you can see a few. Nobody bats an eyelid.

sheenaisapunkrocker · 03/03/2024 23:41

Beware! They are very addicitve 🤣

Gibs0nGirl · 04/03/2024 08:39

Oh yes @sheenaisapunkrocker I got my third last month and am already thinking about what's next.

I usually get at least a year between cravings!

Confused118 · 06/03/2024 16:44

I don't think anyone can call it a mid life crisis. I've never liked them but when I see some of the amazing artists with their show winning pieces i'd love to have one of them.

As long as you get it for you I don't think you can go wrong

Gibs0nGirl · 06/03/2024 16:56

Exactly, where did it come about that they're only for 20 year olds?

This thread makes me want a proper one now!!!
