My new tattoo

Hi everyone , I am just looking for an opinion, I recently got a tattoo for my two girls . I got there birth flowers but the tattooist did it much bigger then i wanted . My friend arranged the tattoo as she wanted similar for her children but I think there was a mix up with sizing . I asked the tattooist to shrink the tattoo down which she did and then I went ahead . I’m regretting it now it was supposed to be a small dainty tattoo but now it takes up about half my forearm .
should I get it lasered off and eventually get what I actually want or keep it ?

Didn’t you realise it was going to be too big when she drew the pattern out and put the outline on your skin, before the ink even went in? Why didn’t you say something then?

Only you know if you can live with it. Getting it lasered off will be expensive, painful and will take a while. Again, only you know if that’s worthwhile.

BlueBirdBell · 15/07/2024 18:51

What did you end up doing op?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 15/07/2024 18:57

You could consider what Popeye did,
i.e. undertake extensive exercises to enlarge your forearm which will give the impression that the tattoo is smaller. (See diagram below.)

Laser is expensive and very painful!!!

cupcaske123 · 15/07/2024 19:12

Strange this happened. So the tattooist shrunk the images, put the print on your arm and then drew around them, massively inflating them?

You can get them Lasered off. I believe it's more difficult if there's colour. It's expensive and painful. I'm sorry this happened as it's a right pain.

Before anyone thinks of getting a tattoo they should read this:

Do you not think that people posting on a forum about tattoos are doing so because they like/want them? Why are you pushing this book?

How could your friend arrange your tattoo? Any decent artist would want to meet the client first hand, they certainly wouldn't arrange to tattoo someone by 2nd hand info.

If they shrank the design and it's still too big that's on you for agreeing to it.

Read what? Is there a point to sharing an image?

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 17/07/2024 12:01

I don't know much about tattoos, but don't they draw the image on your skin before they go ahead with the permanent marks? How did it end up bigger than you'd agreed to?

CatamaranViper · 17/07/2024 12:09

So it seems this event happened quite a while ago but a couple things. PP says no tattoo artist would let someone else arrange someone's tattoo. Not true. Many people buy others tattoos as gifts. I've done it myself with a well known artist around here. Obviously the artist meets the client before the actual tattoo and will give a consultation on the day.

Usually though, you discuss size, design, placement and send references in advance, all of which is vetted on the day to make sure you're happy with it.
Once the stencil is on the skin, the client then confirms if this is what they want. They are asked before any needle goes near their skin if it's what they want. It is absolutely in everyone's best interest for the client to speak up.

Any tattoo on untouched skin looks bold, bright, big etc at first because it's such a contrast. I hope you found peace with your tattoo OP. I've never had one removed but I'm aware it's expensive, painful and a long process.

I think you misinterpreted my post. Buying a gift voucher for a tattooist is not the same as arranging someone else's tattoo.

@stephanieeeee The best thing you can do is to give it a year, then reassess and see how you feel about it. You might find you've grown to love it, you might realise you despise having a tattoo at all and want rid of it, maybe you want it changed or added to, maybe you want it lasered off and replaced with a 🐸💈one. Getting a - don't want to say "first" as it implies you're obligated to get another one or whatever - a tattoo when you've not had one before is always a massive shock because it's such a big change to your appearance, and nothing really prepares you for it. Even for sensible, normal people who plan in advance, book appointments, and do research in this day and age it's going to be a shock and maybe a little bit scary the first few times you see it in the mirror! Give it a year so you can see what it looks like when it's properly healed, what the colours really look like when it's all settled down, how much it shows or doesn't show with the clothes you normally wear or don't wear, how it makes you feel when you show it off, when you cover it up, when people notice it, so on and so forth.

Give it some time to settle and for you to "get to know it" as it were. There's no rush, take your time, it's gonna be a bit confusing and you'll have some conflicting emotions at first, but I promise you you'll figure it out soon enough what's right for you, and whichever decision you make will be the right one.

I hate my tattoos.

I got them all in my mid 20s to early 30s.

I'm 40 not and despise every one of them.

I have almost full sleeves.

I’m sorry about that. Out of curiosity, what made you start to dislike them? No judgement, but I am worried about the tattoo trend and as someone without, I don’t know what the process or trigger of tattoo regret is.

Why did you get them in the first place? There must have been something you liked about them.

Because they meant things to me, I liked the designs etc.

They still mean things but I just hate having tattoos. I think they look tacky even though they are well executed.

People change, I'd much rather have bare skin but I couldn't get them removed
I'm covered in them.

I guess after 35 I became much more conservative
