Septum piercing healing

Hi, I'm planning to get a septum piercing, having coveted it for months! But I work in a professional role, although not client facing. I was planning to flik the piercing bar up to hide it, but was told by the pircer that it cannot be moved for 2 months, until it has healed sufficiently. What are your experiences on the healing time? Any tips on after care also gratefully received! Oh, and did it hurt much? Thank you in advance!

I just got my septum pierced the other week after wanting to get it done for ages. I am in an advanced nursing role so do have patient contact in the community setting. I opted to go for a seamed ring and tucked the wee ball up into the nostril so just looks like a snug ring and to be fair even my friends and family haven’t noticed it immediately unless I pointed it out. I would say as well that as it’s more prevalent in the general population to have piercings and tattoos (I also have tattoos that are visible to clients), most of my patients have tattoos and/or piercings anyway and the only stipulation in the uniform policy was that tattoos and piercings are discrete and inoffensive.

I had considered getting the barbell type so only the balls could be seen but I don’t think it’s really much more discrete than the ring and aesthetically that was the look I wanted. Mine sits quite snug too.

My piercer did tell me that with good healing aftercare it is one on the easier piercings to heal and should take 8 weeks if looking after it and yourself well. I have been given it a gentle clean with saline twice a day with cosmetic buds and then making sure it’s dry as piercings don’t like water with the buds too.

It was a lot easier piercing than my nostril and much less painful, more of an annoying sting than pain and not felt any pain since the initial piercing.

Hope that helps!

Thank you, that's really helpful! I went ahead and I'm a proud owner of septum piercing now, thanks again for your help!
