Hives around new tattoo - should I be worried?

Got a new tattoo on my forearm on Monday - followed advice of artist to the letter which was to 3 times a day for 3 days wash in hot water, use special tattoo soap, wash off, pat dry with clean towel, moisturise with special tattoo aftercare moisturiser lotion and wrap with cling wrap.

Yesterday I took off the wrap and continued to wash and moisture 3 times a day. I noticed it was itchy (normal) and a little red lump. Today as day has gone on more red lumps have appeared, a few on tattoo but mainly around the edge and on the other non inked side of my arm. They are red, raised and filled with tiny amount of liquid. Don't seem particularly alarming but annoying.

Noticed this evening that they feel like little pins poking me, but only when I've just moisturised.

I'm wondering if it's just a reaction to the particular moisturiser, maybe over moisturising when the cling was on (previous tatts I've only been told to keep cling wrap on for the first day), or if I need to consult a GP?

I think I'll try swapping to plain coconut oil tomorrow.

The tattoo itself has otherwise healed much better and quicker than previous ones.

I'd stop wrapping it. I was advised to use Palmers cocoa butter on my tattoos. Wasn't told to wash multiple times or wrap it

I always get this from wrapping. Even worse with dermalise.

The skin around the tattoo gets clogged with the cream you're putting on and then can't breathe, hence the hives.

I now only wrap on the first day, and only use hustle butter, it's the only thing that doesn't give me extra lumps.

With larger pieces I'd still wrap overnight for a couple days to avoid a bed full of inky plasma, but I let them breathe in the day.

Try the hustle butter wash and original hustle butter. It's so good.

Thanks - I did stop wrapping mid Thursday but I suspected that may have been the cause. I'm relieved I don't need to go to docs!
Thanks for recommendations.

It's just your pores being clogged and not being able to breathe. I've had it on several body parts from cling film and products.

Though on body parts that are too big to wrap like my back I've never had clogged pores or rashes. It'll clear up in a week if you leave your skin unwrapped.

Honestly all I do now is wrap on the first day, and after that I wash it and apply hustle butter every day.

Oh dear - I followed the advice to the letter because he is so experienced. Thing is - the actual tattoo has healed like a dream. Unlike my others - so I guess for me personally it's a choice between wrapping longer and putting up with spots for a bit or not and putting up with more scabbing.
I hope coconut oil will help because it's supposed to be the best for sensitive skin, which I do have. Thanks! I'll try the hustle butter if coconut oil doesn't help.

Nb. Hustle butter is a bit too pricey for me unless I have no choice 😂

I never re warp any of my tattoos. I leave the wrap on for about an hour then take it off wash it with normal soap. I moisturiser 2 times a day with coco butter vasaline stuff and wash it twice a day with normal soap. After a couple of days I still moisturise twice a day but I just wash it as normal once in the shower. I'm pretty sure the advice is not to wrap anymore. Also no need for special tattoo products, I find them too harsh.

I just showered, washed with ordinary pears soap and moisturised with x-virgin organic coconut oil (thin layer). No needles sensation, which I was getting previously after every wash and moisture so hopefully that will sort it. 🤞
