Bepanthen ruined my tattoo

I can't be sure.

But it's my suspicion.

I recently got a new tattoo (done by a very reputable artist) and did my usual wash with plain soap and apply bepanthen routine. Has treated my other 5 well. But I had had a few years between the most recent tattoo and one before.

But the ITCHING!!

My tattoo ended up going pretty gross and now I'm going to get it retouched and added to.

I'm going to a different (better) artist. His opinion is the previous one confine been over worked. But I am still very wary of the bepanthen as reading online other have had similar and some think the formula might have changed.

Was thinking of ordering the Tattoo Goo aftercare set? Any opinions please?

I was advised to use Palmers cocoa butter on my recent one

SometimesRavenSometimesParrot · 11/07/2021 12:04

Bepantben changed the formula a few years ago and should absolutely not be put on tattoos anymore. I’m surprised the artist didn’t give aftercare info.

Tattoo goo is good but any decent moisturiser will work

FredaFox · 11/07/2021 12:04

I've always used it as have my friends and zero issues, it could be an isolated case or just one of those things but the fact a so called better artist says the area was over worked makes me agree with him
My last tattoo was November so rarely recent

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 11/07/2021 12:06

I used it on my recent one (2 weeks ago) and it was fine but it was a small and simple tattoo. Bepanthen do a tattoo specific formula now apparently.

The first artist (of tattoo that went gross) did advise bepanthen.

New one I'm a while from my appointment so they've not given me after care advice yet. I'll chat to them about it when I'm getting it done.

But thought there wasn't any harm in asking you guys too. Smile

This. It’s not the same formula anymore, and it’s not been recommended for ages.

I’m sorry about the itching and that it now needs touching up, though!

Miami try aveeno!!! Its organic and vegan and recommended by my tattoo artist. Bepanthen is too thick so your skin can't breathe.

At the next tattoo, ask the artist about tattoo care. But I think that the usual moisturizer will not hurt.

OneGlamMama · 16/08/2021 20:25

Wash in the Australian tea tree wash.
Moisturise with the LUSH dream cream. Best thing ever!

gamerchick · 16/08/2021 20:32

I used it initially and my tattoo is fine. I use coconut oil on it now.

E45 made the first sitting fade a bit though. Had to go over the black.

How did the itching make it need touching up, did you scratch? When that stage of healing started I used ice packs to stop it. Worked quite well. It's healed canny.

JanisJ · 16/08/2021 20:35

Hustle butter every time! It's the most gorgeous stuff ever.

DecorChange · 16/08/2021 20:36

They changed the recipe to bapanthen a while ago and isn't recommended anymore. My tattoo guy says best to let it heal with putting nothing on it. If it itches slap it lightly

Londontown12 · 16/08/2021 20:52

Palmers cocoa butter is amazing !! And fade itch is good as well x

TiddyTidTwo · 16/08/2021 20:52

Tattoo Goo is my go to.

Londontown12 · 16/08/2021 20:53

Fade the itch !! X

dementedpixie · 16/08/2021 20:57

I was told to use Palmers coco butter. Mine itched like a bitch but i managed not to scratch it. If you scratched it then you ruined it, not the bepanthen.

Bepanthen make a tattoo cream now btw
