Geometric dot work - First tattoo on Wedneday!

Hello,

Getting inked for the first time next week! It will be provisionally a 2 hour session and mostly consists of geometric dot work. It will cover most of my upper arm. It's also going to have some white linework and highlights. A bit excited and nervous.

Any pointers for healing and products you'd recommend?

Oh how exciting!

Grace Neutral does some amazing geometric hand poke tattoos. They're beautiful.

Get yourself a couple of tubes of Bepanthen to help with the healing and itching. Stick it on everyday. Once a day at least. I also used to whack on extra whenever my tattoo started itching. Somehow rubbing it in made it itch less.

And whatever you do, do NOT scratch it no matter how itchy it gets 😂😂

I've heard mixed reviews about Bepanthenan - I used on my babies butts but haven't they changed the formula? From the research I've done on Youtube would more natural (less processed) be better?. I want to avoid smearing and surface blowing since I will have black and white.

I have a geometric dot work tattoo - took 5 hours though.

I used Bepanthen but this one wasn’t particularly itchy for some reason and it healed really quickly and well.

What design are you having?

My most recent tattoo on my inner arm i used Tattoo Goo. I had no itching and it healed fast. I've also used bepanthen in the past and had no problems.
Good luck.

I've always used bepanthen fine.

If when it's itching like fury you can also give it an open-palmed slap. (Might sound random but suggested by my tattooist and worked for me.)

Other than that, just follow your tattooist's instructions and enjoy :)

My ds has a lot of hand poked dot work on his arms. He always uses Bepanthen too.

OneMoreLight · 20/10/2019 09:51

I stopped using bepanthem. I use Palmer's non scented cocoa butter now.

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 20/10/2019 12:17

It's a fractal design - the itching doesn't bother me as I am a horsefly's buffet so I'm used to the slap treatment - so are my DCs..

I'll post pics when it is fresh and when its healed.

The most recent advice is not to use bepanthen since the recipe change. It was commonly used in the past (I used to use it too), but people say not to now, and I don't now.

Honestly any mild, unperfumed moisturiser is fine. I use E45. But the best thing to do is to just follow the advice of your tattoo artist. Assuming they're a good professional, you should listen to them over strangers online!

Had it done - very close to my stencil, barely hurt except for near my shoulder and towards my armpit. It's still rather blobby with stencil ink but I'll put photos out near the weekend when the first stage is over.
Need to keep the current dressing on until the morning.

Here it is - I will be returning for re-working and some additions later this month but its healing well - I think dotwork is less traumatic than other forms.
