Makeup to cover up tattoo

DD1 has a black and red tattoo on her forearm. Around 2 x 2 inches in dimension.

We are going to a formal wedding next month where she will be one of the few people under 45 and it is highly unlikely there will be other tattoos on display.

She needs some makeup to cover it, at least for the service and the main reception. A jacket isn't an option with her dress.

I know nothing about makeup at the best of times, let alone this.

Any recommendations for something that will cover as much as is possible and not rub off onto smart clothes?

Estée Lauder do a double wear body foundation, I use it to cover my HUGE back tattoo for work events.

I went into Boots and got the counter girl to show me how to apply it and colour match etc

I bought dermablend foundation too but prefer the double wear

Dermacol - it's cheap as well. I have it and it covers my tattoos

Veil cover cream is supposed to cover tattoos I think. They used to do a sample card with lots of colours in. They should have some videos on the website.

The trick in covering up well is to put some colour over all of your arm, not just in the bit that needs covering. A trick that a MAC MUA showed me to cover a big livid scar was to use an opposite colour lipstick to negate the colour in my scar - so for me, I use a red lippy just in that area, for your dd a green colour corrector would help on the red areas.

Once covered (good superdrug video here, then using a brush on bronzer all up her arms will distract from a block of covered skin.

FWIW, I use (on the occasions I want to cover my very large surgical scars) MAC concealer, Double wear in the scar areas, MAC face and body foundation all up my arms and then the bronzer. It works really well, and its only the double wear I buy specially

Thank you all so much. I knew MN would help. Flowers
I now know what to ask for and then I can send DD in to get the right tone.

Why does it need to be covered? I'm not really understanding the problem.

TeenTimesTwo · 11/05/2019 09:43

pinky Because in the context of the event it is inappropriate to have it on show.

Wouldn't there be a risk of the makeup rubbing off? Could she wear a corsage or piece of jewellery over it?

MumUnderTheMoon · 11/05/2019 09:45

As pp asked. Why does she "need[s] some makeup to cover it"? Is this your idea or hers? If she has asked for ideas then that's fair enough. If this is your idea then stop. If you ask your child (even an adult child) to alter themselves because of what other people might think it is very hurtful and demoralising.

Jelly That's why I asked for recommendations that won't rub off in my OP. Smile

Mum Sorry. I am not on this thread for discussions on pros and cons of tattoos in various contexts. I asked a polite question at the start and got some very helpful answers.
