How many...?

bumblebee39 · 26/10/2018 17:09

Is too many? Got three at the moment got the next one planned... Next one will be the biggest yet.

All in discreet places but would love a half sleeve and some on my wrists and hands as well eventually...

I don't think this will ever be an issue in the areas I will be working (mix of creative and hair/beauty as well as Uni).

I don't want too many but *how many is too many these days?

I don't think there is such a thing as too many. It's all down to personal choice

dustarr73 · 27/10/2018 03:33

I think its a personal choice.

You cant have too many in my opinion

MaggieAndHopey · 28/10/2018 07:47

No such thing. It's down to your personal choice and I guess the sorts of places you work. I'm in the voluntary sector in a front-of-house role and am about 60% covered, has not been a problem for me apart from people wanting to stroke my arms!

StylishMummy · 28/10/2018 07:48

Any is too many. Personally I think they're awful and prefer natural beauty. I feel the same about spray tans and false nails

ElspethFlashman · 28/10/2018 07:52

No such thing as long as the amount and placement suit your life.

I can never get any on my arms as my arms are always bare at work. But I wouldn't care about the actual number elsewhere on my body.

MaggieAndHopey · 28/10/2018 08:09

Not sure what you're doing on the tattoo forum then, @StylishMummy, or are you only here to sneer?

April241 · 28/10/2018 08:11

Depends on the person. I have 14...or 15, can never remember and I’m planning a further three just now (one cover up and two new)

bumblebee39 · 28/10/2018 08:59

I think that's why I've steered clear of big visible ones so far but I'm realising it's a lot more socially acceptable now and also wouldn't impact any work I want to do. I would maybe like to lecture at a Uni someday but don't think it would get in the way of that, but otherwise can't think of any area of my life it would affect negatively. I mean, I think lecturers often have them now anyway and that's something that's only theoretical in the future so seems like a silly reason not to really...

I would say go for it.
I have about 17 and im saving to get more

bumblebee39 · 01/11/2018 11:41

I'm pregnant at the moment but going to set some money aside for the next one at least. Nice treat to me when I'm done having babas! Xx

When you run out of skin to put them on I suppose!
I only have the 1 and have no plans for more but I don't think there is such a thing as too many tattoos. Personal taste and all that.

Strokethefurrywall · 01/11/2018 13:17

I don't think any is too many - I just had my 5th done on my 39th birthday at the beginning of October.
The first 4 were all discrete but the 5th is on my inner right arm and is fairly prominent.
Every single day since I got it people have complemented it.
I work at a law firm, any client meetings I wear a jacket to cover it, but otherwise not.

dustarr73 · 01/11/2018 15:17

When you run out of skin to put them on I suppose!

Just laser some off and start againGrin

Janine42 · 21/12/2018 13:27

To be honest with you I believe 27 is the perfect amount. - Janine X

How many? I would say it depends on how large the tatt is. And on whereabouts it is (e.g. highly visible - wrist, neck, fingers ... or concealable - back, shoulder etc). And of course depends on the individual. Personally I don’t find an entire ‘sleeve’ of tatts attractive, looks OTT to me and I can’t see the individual designs as they aren’t surrounded / framed by skin. I also wonder what ‘sleeve’ tattoos will look like in 30-40 years time when the colour and clarity of detail starts to fade. I got a 4” square design on my upper arm some years ago. And love it still, very pleased. Found the whole process fascinating and enjoyable (even the pain which diminishes after around 15 mins. I found). So very soon afterwards started planning my next. Got a 7” x 4” design on inner arm other side. The tattooist did exactly what I asked so I’ve no complaints but for some reason I’m not as happy with it as the first one, maybe it’s in the wrong place, not sure why.

Anyway the point of all this rambling is to say that I enjoyed the planning and design and actual process of both and I envisaged having several more - now I find I’m in no hurry to get any more done, in one sense I think the first one (which was a simple but bold B&W design) might have been better if it was my only tattoo.
