Changing nose stud

I know this is a tattoo forum but I thought you guys might know best!

I had my nose pierced a month ago. I assumed the piercer would use a small-ish stud but it’s quite a large ball.

I work in a school kitchen and they don’t mind me having it pierced but for health and safety, I have to cover it with a plaster in case it was to fall out. Thing is, it’s hard to keep the plaster from wandering because the ball is quite big and sticks out from my nostril quite a bit.

I was wondering if I’d be able to change it for something a bit smaller that is more flush to my nose and therefore easier to cover properly? I know 4 weeks is quite a short amount of time to be changing it (my piercer said 8-10 weeks). It is healing well, I’ve had no problems with it at all. No bleeding, crusting, bumps etc. Would changing it at this stage be a bad idea? Waiting the full 8-10 weeks isn’t a problem but I just thought maybe I could sort my plaster problem out a bit!

I wouldn't at this stage, it's amazing how quickly they can seal up. Nearly summer hols time so I'd be waiting until September personally.

Go and speak to the piercer. If it can be changed, they will change it for you.

You need to be careful not to irritate it, put too small a bar in, use cheap metal etc etc

You might just be able to change the ball on it. Speak to your piercer.

Have you got a pic? I had similar with mine but it was also a bone stud so had a big arrow on the other end stopping it coming out, I caught it so many times and kept pulling it out it actually hurt more putting it back in eventually I changed it for a tiny silver hoop and have had no issues, I know it isn't advisable so do speak to your peircer but speaking from experience I had no issues Smile

Pffft, I changed mine after 2 days because I hated the original piercing stud. However, I've had it done several times so was comfortable fiddling with it.

Frankly after 4 weeks, I'd do it and not look back. No silver though.

I think you'd be okay op , I had to change mine after a couple of days as it was so tight , heavy and uncomfortable. It was sore but okay.

I put in a single tiny stud earring bent at a right angle. It was really comfortable and easy to cover.

Thanks everyone, the stud itself is a screw one so I would want to change it for the same so it doesn’t fall out. I don’t have a picture but I’d say the ball itself is maybe 3-4mm. I was only really considering changing it because in this heat and working in a kitchen as well, the plaster won’t stick properly because it’s only sort of 40% on my skin and 60% over the ball as it sticks out so much. If that makes sense! I know the gauge of it too, it’s 18mm.

Last time I had my nose pierced, I changed it quite soon after I had it done and didn’t have any problems but I tried to change it again after that and didn’t swap straight away and in the 30 minutes or so I had it out, the hole closed over. I had a very temperamental helix piercing that refused to heal and had a big bump on (although after 6 months I gave in and changed to a small barbell instead of the long labret and it healed perfectly after that) but with my nose having been healing so well, I’m wondering if a quick change of jewellery would irritate it. I also keep catching the ball on towels and things because it sticks out so much and I’m conscious that the pulling might be making it heal slower (as I know cartilage piercings heal from the outside in) so again, wondering if a smaller, flatter stud would benefit me in that way too.

But again, it’s only 3 weeks until the summer holidays, it’s just how much longer I can tolerate a plaster flapping around on my nose all day lol

@Lilypad15 hiya, don't know if you have this sorted or not but I recently had a cartilage piercing and was told 3 months before changing jewellery.

OP, how about a smooth segment ring? It can't possibly fall out, it has to be stretched with pliers to open it and release the small section that comes out for the ring to open
