Tattoos and piercings in childcare

HI there I’m currently a childcare apprentice in a nursery and have to write a report on public concerns. I have chosen tattoos and piercings and I was wondering if anybody could help me by giving their opinions of people who care for children with tattoos and piercings, where you draw the line (e.g. tattoos with profanity etc). Thank you for your help in advance, have a lovely day ☺️

Picture tattoos wouldn't bitter me, only profanity.
My ds' had a key worker who had her tongue pierced. If I'm honest, I didn't like it and thought it made her look unprofessional. However, my ds loved her and she was absolutely great with him and that was much more important to me.

Like others have said tattoos that are not offensive or profound wouldn't bother me. I come from a culture where tattoos (or tā moko as we call them) are normal and tell a story about that person.

Piercings are fine by me, but would worry that dangly ones would get pulled and hurt the wearer.
Our nanny used to work in a nursery and said the rules were that studs only for ears and a flat stud for nose and a flat clear retainer for tongue piercing as they had had a case in the past where a couple of children had tried to copy a staff members tongue piercing by putting beads/sequin/craft jewels on their tongue.
Other piercings would assessed on case by case as they didn't have anyone at the time with any other visable piercing.
Our nanny doesn't have any piercings but does have a small tattoo which is only visable in the summer or if she takes dc swimming. Its very inofensive and has a lovely story behind it.

Just because someone chooses to have tattoos or piercings, it doesn't mean that they are a bad person or should be shunned. There is a lady who works in a coffee shop near us that we see often. She is coverd in tattoos and piercings and has ever-changing whacky hair styles and colour and a quirky dress sense. Most people would probably avoid her from appearance alone, but if you actually bother to get to know her you will discover she is an amazing young lady. Intelligent, articulate, warm, friendly and has some amazingly deep and insightful thoughts as well as being a very talented musician. She is a great example of not judging a book by its cover.

Zero issue with tattoos and piercings unless it says 'bitch' on the back of her neck and swastika on her forehead. Or something gory or inappropriate that was on show.

Fekko · 08/03/2018 16:23

I'm trying to work out the logistics of the 'bitch' knuckle tattoo!

Helpimfalling · 09/03/2018 17:54

@Fekko in my case she had my brothers name and then bitch with equated to one knuckle per letter

Crazy bitch there divorced now poor cow I wonder what she did to cover that

Fekko · 09/03/2018 18:01

The thumb as well? Lovely!

Helpimfalling · 09/03/2018 19:15

Yep the thumb too! My poor dad didn't know where to look every time we saw her but I still don't get how the kids didn't read it at school I use to ask if she had to wear gloves

TomC96 · 23/04/2021 17:31

I don't judge this as it's not my business. But I'd like them to be covered

I have no problem with tattoos. I literally have one. Facial tattoos are too much for sure, but that's my personal opinion. It's entirely up to you how to deal with your body. The only exception is tattoos that include swearing or bad-content signs. The rest is all fine. I don't even think tattoos matter that much as some people claim. I would instead consider the attitude to my kid as a prior criterion. Plus, since the daughter is 4 y.o, she's in kindergarten every day. It's located here in Indianapolis, IN, close to our house. If one day I come to bring her and come across with a new tattooed babysitter, I'll most probably ask her some details about the tattoo

Totally agree. No issues with this
