Tattoo over birthmark

Has anyone has a tattoo over a flat birthmark? My birthmark is tan coloured (like a big freckle) and was thinking of a flower in a faded/vintage style (see pic) so it’s very subtle with the main background colour part predominantly being birthmark itself if that makes sense.

That's very pretty but despite what the caption says I don't think it will age will. It doesn't look like there's enough contrast in the tattoo itself, and between the tattoo and the surrounding skin.

I think your best bet is to find a tattooist whose work you really love - Instagram is great for this and depending on what style of tattoo you like I can give you some suggestions to start you off - contact them, and ask what they would suggest.

I don't think it will age well, that should say.

Do you want a tattoo and the birthmark is in the way or do you want to cover your birthmark?

I was under the impression that modern inks pretty much stayed where they were so little fading Findo? I don’t have any tattoos currently though so a bit of a novice.

I want to make the birthmark pretty Troy - I did want it completely removing when I was much younger but the scarring put me off.

As far as I know that's not really the case Mulberry. There have been a lot of advances in tattooing in terms of both application and the inks used but most tattoos will fade over time to some extent. This is partly due to the effect of UV light (so a tattoo on your forearm will fade quicker than a tattoo on your bum!) but also partly because of the nature of skin itself. Obviously it's a living tissue and skin cells do move around a little bit even in the dermis. Pale/pastel colours tend to fade first so if you want a tattoo which features those, the general consensus is you need some darker colours to provide contrast.

I'm not saying don't get that style, I'm just saying it might need freshening up in a few years.
