Does anyone have pet mice?

Hi, does anyone have pet mice and if so what are they like as pets? I like the idea of the fancy mice. Do you keep them in pairs? Also do they smell!?

No, but one of my best friends had them a few years ago and says they were brilliant pets. And she is extremely houseproud, so the smell honestly can't have been a big deal at all.

I have a hamster. Also an awesome pet. Can I ask if there is a reason you are specifically going for mice?

(I would have rats myself, if I had room for the size of cage they need, and was at home enough to give them the interaction. Awesome pets).

Keep at least 2 girls together. They don't smell if you clean them out regularly. Males can fight, and be pungent.

Thanks both! Good to know re make and female and them smell.
@IlovelurchersI’m still undecided as to whether to get a hamster or mice! I’ve had hamsters when I was younger (20’s not as a child) and loved them! I do think they are great pets, but have heard that mice are nearly as interactive and are awake in the day, which is a bonus as I have kids and I also work from home so can handle and interact.

It seems that things have changed a lot char wise over the last few years. My hamster wasn’t in a small cage but it certainly wasn’t one of these huge ones with all the deep bedding etc. I am making sure I get the right set up. Wondering if mice can have less space..

Have you thought about rats? They are such affectionate pets. They do need a large cage, but so do mice. You do need to have more than one, preferably a rolling mischief if at least 3 as they get depressed if on their own. I currently have 8, down from 13.

Best pets ever.

I do love the idea of rats but I just don’t have the space for them really. Also sounds utterly heartbreaking when they die, not that losing mice or hamsters would be easy!
