Help! We need names for our two new chins

Two female chinchillas - we've been waiting for them for three months but still can't settle on names for them that work well as a pair! Daughter wants something 'fun' and not 'dorky' or too babyish - think sassy 15 year old. We were thinking foods? Quite like 'Sushi' as a name but can't think of another name to go with it. Both parents had names starting with 'M' so M names could work too. Help us mumsnet, our minds are blank! One is grey with a white tummy, the other is grey and white blotches - both very cute and very calm given that we've only had them 24 hours. We've kept chins before so have a good set up for them - maybe that helps.

Does she know they can live up to 20 years in captivity? And they will throw their poo at you too, so put a hand over your coffee mug when they're looking malevolent!

Yep, don't worry we are seasoned chin owners, and there was a lot of discussion before these girls were chosen and we've been waiting ages for them from a good breeder! Chinchillas are contradictions in being both brilliant pets and easy to keep, whilst being at the same time really difficult pets and difficult to keep! We are looking forward to a lifetime of fun with these girls! But yes, it's weird to think they could live longer than a dog.

Re the poo, we have a robot vac that goes out daily on a poo removal detail!

Hi op, did the chins get their names decided in the end? 😍

Chinchillasneednames · 30/10/2024 09:48

Well, I think we have settled on Miso and Mochi - they are adorable and have settled in really well!

You have made my day the way I read that was that you were naming your double chins 😂

Awwww, gorgeous pictures. Glad they have a good home.

I read it as naming your double chin too. I'm closer to having triple chins but I'm not so fond of them that I'd want to name them.

I don't know much about chinchillas but I've enjoyed looking at the pictures you've posted and think they are very cute. I like the names you settled on.

Great names and gorgeous fluffballs! I held a chinchilla once and couldn't believe how soft it was (and how deep you had to go before you got to actual chinchilla). Very jealous of your new family members 😍

Thank you for all of the photos and I think you've chosen gorgeous names Wink
