Bonding advice

We are fairly experienced owners and bonded before but are struggling!
One year old male recently lost his friend so we got a new baby. We kept them side by side where they could smell and hear each other for just over a week then put them into a neutral pen with separate hides, bowls etc. this is what we've done several times before and after a bit of chattering etc they get on fine. This time they wouldn't stop rumble strutting, chattering and chasing, mainly the bigger one instigating it. He also kept humping the baby (so much so we genuinely suspected baby was a girl-definitely a boy but his back end was rather wet afterwards so all a bit strange). The baby was getting stressed so we put them back into adjoining cages.
Any advice on next steps would be much appreciated- the older one has bonded with two others before and never had any trouble. Baby is quite shy and isn't trying to be dominant...

I should've said they're guinea pigs!

Wash them.

Baby piglet might still smell like his Mum or other female pigs he was with
If he's under 12 weeks you need a suitable shampoo but Gorgeous Guineas has some .

When I bonded pigs ( over 12 weeks ) I used Lemongrass shampoo ( I think Lemongrass and Cedar or something ) or Just For Boars for the boys .

We had an adult and a piglet , as the baby grew he was huge . We gave them a bath to chill them out , make them neutral and puts them in a bad mood with the human
Then everything cleaned and neutral , use white vinegar to clean.

The only bonding I failed with was my GP8 , sow . She was fine with her own cagemate but wouldn;t bond with our other three .

Hot weather brings out their wild side !

Thank you. We left it a week with their cages next to each other then tried again in a neutral space and bonding worked like a charm! Still a bit of grumbling now and again but they are getting on well. Our next step was a bath, they could unite in their hatred of us for doing it to them!
