How much would you pay?

Got a local teen (3 doors away) coming to feed our rabbit once a day for 6 days. All food next to his hutch so it is a 2 minute job. What would you pay him?

£20

£5 a day

I think £5 a day. I know it’s a quick job but they will be cheaper than any other option

TemuSpecialBuy · 12/05/2024 07:48

I’d say £10 per day

faceoff2000 · 12/05/2024 07:51

I was thinking £5 day so £30 and some chocolate/sweets from holiday.

£10 seems too much I think.

I think £5 a day too. We pay a cat sitter who does 30 min visits £10 a visit so a teenager doing a quick feed £5 sounds about right.

I pay my nephew £5 per visit when he looks after our cats, I think that's fair. He has a 5 min cycle to us.

marshmallowfinder · 12/05/2024 07:55

Who's cleaning out the rabbit and topping up water, checking not overheated etc? My guinea pigs have a professional pet sitter visit when I'm away and she charges £10 per visit, but that's with proper time spent with them and she comes twice a day.

hattie43 · 12/05/2024 08:05

I wouldn't rely on any teen to care for my pets if I was away tbh .

marshmallowfinder · 12/05/2024 08:13

I would definitely pay a professional pet sitter to come for peace of mind and proper care. I wouldn't trust a random teen and it isn't a 2 minute job to provide correct care, including giving company, cleaning out, chopping veg, filling hay and water and ensuring all is well for a hutch bound rabbit.

raspberryberet7 · 12/05/2024 08:19

I'd give them £50

faceoff2000 · 12/05/2024 08:43

It's just the food and water they will be doing. My husband will swap litter tray halfway on day 3/4.

We have a pet sitter coming twice a day for our rabbits when we're away for a few days at the end of the month, she's only charging £30 but has experience with rabbits. They are high maintenance creatures, they get their litter tray spot cleaned every day (extremely important as we get warmer and into fly strike season) and they need all their blankets changing every day as they like to pee on everything. (One has incontinence issues and has emptied my bank account to the vets this month, the other has mega colon disease).

Really you do need poop/pee cleaning out every day, especially if they are just in a hutch. Mine have a 6x4 shed and 10x5 run and make a daily mess of the lot of it.
