Bunny just been neutered

We have always had boy bunnies and had one single old bunny (9.5 years) left. We fell in love with a girl last November at a rescue and then, in December when she still had no home we decided to take her in. We expected to keep the bunnies separate for ages as old bunny had been on his own for a year since his playmate died. In reality, the vibes became close after just 2 interactions and are now inseparable.

young bunny was finally big enough to be neutered and it’s part of the rescue agreement (boy already done so no risk but they insisted). The op for a girl bunny is a lot more traumatic than boys and she’s not been eating so was back at the vet yesterday, syringe food given and pain relief. We have had the bunnies separated as advised (cages next to each other).

She looked miserable so today we’ve put the older bunny in with her and I’m watching carefully. She’s now moving around, eating and snuggling with him… but vet said not to put them together when we’re not watching (due to stitches etc).

I can’t sit here all day watching them but feel awful separating them again. Any advice gratefully received.

Oh I found this so stressful when we had our girl bunny done. She is obviously really missing him! I would probably still separate while you can't watch them just to protect her stitches. Do you have to get the stitches checked again before you can return them together permanently?

I remember our girl bunnies and it did take it out of them. Can you separate them in a way that they can still see each other and sit either side of the divide. Wr found that really helped.

@Bohoboo cages are next to each other but they’ve not even sniffed through but in together they’re all snuggly.

@coffeeisthebest she’s got a check up later today so I’ll ask then. I’m working from home today in the same room so they can be in together.

Oh my goodness look at those lovelies! I can see why separating them is so tricky, they are so in love! I hope you can find out more at the vets.
