Guinea pig lump and losing weight

I am posting this here as a nest of vipers is preferable to what would come at me on the UK GP forum!

Male piggy age 4 yrs 8 months has had a lump on his flank for a while, he is now losing weight and is voraciously hungry. I have held off going to the vets as DH does not agree with spending thousands to keep a pet alive, particularly a furry potato.

Now that he is becoming hungry I am thinking thyroid but that wouldn’t fit with where the lump is.

Does anyone have experience of these symptoms? For avoidance of doubt I will be booking him in at the GP specialist vet after Easter. He doesn’t present as being in pain hence not moving heaven and earth as an emergency but I would do if necessary.

He might not make it until after Easter, mine went down very quickly when losing weight.

He obviously needs to see a vet. Honestly how can you sit around and watch your animal be sick and not take them to get help ? this is straight up neglect. I feel so sorry for your pet could you surrender him to a rescue if you dont want to care for him properly ?

Losing weight is a really bad sign for Guinea pigs. You need to consult a vet asap. It’s the right thing to do.

Take the Guinea pig to vets. We have three Guinea pigs and I have been to vets three times. It has been around £100 per visit including meds. Dh isn't happy spending money but at the same time he doesn't want to Guinea pig to suffer.
