Sick Guinea Pig

Our wee lady is 5, we lost her mate around a year ago.

Kids have been up most of the night sick so we've been late down stairs today.

I've went to feed her and she is lying in her side twitching every now and then.

I'm getting ready to try and get her to a vets we're not registered anywhere and get someone to stay in with the kids who are unwell.

Is there any hope for her? To be honest I thought she was already away but then she twitched again.

Sad
I know this post is a few days old - I'm guessing she's already gone ? Guinea-pigs don't hang about when they go downhill , and a guinea-pig on its side is showing you they are a very unwell guinea-pig .
They hide illness so well
There's a well known phrase with piggies - Well-To-Dead

Hi yes she passed away before we reached the vet, poor wee thing she had been absolutely fine the day / night before. Squeaking away every time someone went in the fridge. Got to say I've been missing the squeak this week house feels so quiet now.

Aww I'm so sorry @Stressedmummyof4 , I hadn't seen your original post either. Poor wee soul, it sounds like she had a good life though and was very loved.

We've recently taken on a pair of guinea pigs who were given up because their previous owners couldn't stand the squeaking 😞. Personally I think that's the best bit, DH and I are both 60 and we stand there giggling like a pair of wee lassies when they start!

I hope the children have recovered from their illness now, but they'll be upset too of course. For such little animals they have a big personality don't they?

Sorry again about your piggy.

Ahh
It does take a while to get used to the silence when you chop vegetables or eat something noisy , they have ears on elastic when it comes to their bellies !

It is very true with guinea-pigs that they go . Even if you get them to a Vet it sometimes isn't enough to turn them round they just seem to take the decision themselves .
Our last old girl had an eye infection which we treated with drops and gel from the Vet , I was getting up in the night (she was in the little bedroom) to administer . She had the all-clear on the Friday , died on the Sunday night !
We had three oldies that went over six months , I should've got a Rainbow Bridge Frequent Flyer Tag .

One of our boars had a fluid infusion and treatment (I was in two minds wether to have him euthanised but he was DD piggie and the Vet was ok with us taking him home) . He was sitting up at 2am and on his side at 4am.
I put him on DD bed in a little soft pet bed and he went about 7am.
So they are quick .
Which is easier for them but you are left wondering could I have done something different ? and often the answer is "No" .

They are lovely little messy noisy greedy little mammals but my god they break your heart when they die !
