So gp is 6 years old and in the last few months gets poo stuck in his bottom. I've been gently easing this but not sure if I'm actually helping or making it worse?
Any suggestions on what I should actually be doing?

Awww welcome to the downside of boars .
They do tend to get a bit saggy arsed in older age , and 6yo is approaching Old Duffer Territory .

Unfortunately , the only thing you can do is give him a Helping Hand . It bloody stinks sometimes , not like chopped up digested vegatables at all Envy

Our first two boars were uncastrated ( impaction is less likely in castrated boars) the little boy ( Abbysinian ) did poohs the size of a Ferrero Rocher at times ! No trouble passing them, if I lifted him up and there was one there , I put him back till he;d done his bit , usually just walking along .
Couple of times I did the bum dip in warm water , give him a squeeze then dry . You can put a tiny bit of edible oil round his bum if you worry about sticking ( vegetable or sunflower oil)

He did do normal poohs usually . I did show the Guinea=Pig Vet and he said it was "unusual" (polite Grin )

Make sure he has enough fibre and nice hay . Of ours had a day grazing they had hay/pellets/water for supper (much to the other hogs disgust) /
Ours had unlimited bedding hay (except in the height of summer they had hay in looroll tubes to eay ) and loved Readi-Grass and the Jolleys PetShop hay for eating .

Try and keep him active and watch his weight (lazy little eating machines that they are )

Our two later boars were castrated as they had PigWives so we didn't have any problems with them

Is there a photo of the little boy ?

Active GrinGrinGrinNot a chance now he's old. He's outlived two others and he's the last one on our never ending cycle and much happier on his own. Feel like I've been on this forum for years (10 actually) but this is the first gp who has this issue.
I just don't want to make him worse. He's incredible really - full of lumps and bumps, patchy skin (he's a teddy) and in the summer suffered with flystrike. I thought it would finish him off but he bounced right back!!

I have to assist my boy with this too, he still poops like normal but gets a bit impacted every month or so. I lay him like a baby and gently squeeze out what's there, I can usually feel it, dip cotton buds in oil and give him a wipe then a bum bath as dear god the stuff inside smells like death Envy
He seems to be relieved after, despite a few wiggles and squeals!

Ok do you just do the very end or go in a bit further?!

I do go in a little further, with the cotton bud until I can't see the tip, he doesn't seem to mind.

Active Guinea-Pig is an oxymoron isn't it Grin
We made Guine-Pig Villages with loads of cardboard boxes with cut out doors , they loved pootling about and chewing the doors from square to gothic arches .

9 times out of 10 if we went to see them , they'd be squidged into one house together , if you gave them a cage that size you;d be very cruel , but if they decide to cram their lardy arses into a trug of hay , then fair do Grin

Keep cleaning him out - you aren't harming. The pocket is quite deep and you can clean it all. Some will need doing weekly, others less often, so just see how it goes.

Daily? Or leave it to build up?

Daily is probably unnecessary. I'd check it in a week and adjust from there.
