My lovely guinea pig has died

We adopted two boars from a rescue last autumn, thought to be around 2 years old. They were called Timmy and Tonka and we loved them. Timmy was the smaller, cleverer one and a Tonka the bigger but slightly daft one. We're away on our first holiday since we got them, and had left them with a friend who has had piggies before. My husband took their hutch, run etc over to my friend's house and settled them in. All seemed fine, we set off the next day. But last night Timmy was quieter than usual and didn't seem right. My friend sent me a message but I didn't get it till this morning - but she consulted her vets over the phone twice. By this morning Timmy had died 😥I an feeling so guilty in case I've missed something, or the stress of moving them caused it. The guinea pigs are my first ever pets (they're really my daughter's, but I've never had pets before!) and they were such characters. Tonka is ok, my lovely friend took him to the vet for a check-up and he's in good health, I just wish I'd known Timmy wasn't. Not really asking for advice, and I know this can happen with guinea pigs, just wanted to share with people who might understand. Please be kind, I am really upset.

I wanted to come back and update in case anyone would see this... We finally have a new friend for Tonka! There was a delay as we found a lump on his back just before he was due to meet the new friend, which turned out to be a cyst, but it meant a vet trip, antibiotics, recovery time etc. Anyway the amazing guinea pig rescue people helped with bonding them, taking him off for the weekend, and they are getting on really well so they're home now. Tonka is the tri-coloured one, we have decided to name the new one Haricot (Harry for short) as they're both types of bean and haricot beans are white! He's gorgeous, younger (we're not sure of exact age) and very chilled with Tonka who likes to be in charge! They've chased a bit but no aggression so far and they're lying down next to each other etc, it's so cute! Of course we still miss Timmy, but we're so glad Tonka has a new friend!

Harry is adorable!! So pleased for you OP. I'm sure they'll bond brilliantly. Xxx

Thanks, he is a real cutie. It's going really well so far, they keep settling down for a snooze next to each other and they're sharing food without squabbling. We thought it would be really hard to find another boy that he could be friends with as boy piggies have this reputation of being more aggressive etc, but it's really not always the case!
