Hammy is two and a half. When i went ro feed him earlier i found him next to his water bottle stiff and cold but still breathing and eyes open. When i went to pick him up he moved his head up a little but not alot. I moved him into his bed.

I have decided that if he is the same come morning i will pts at the vets.

Anyone know how long it will take? or did anyone's hammy make a full recovery?

I don't know what how long the process is but can you pick him up and hold him so he's with someone.

CakeBeautifulCake · 29/04/2023 22:00

Is he very tame? I had this with a gerbil and I laid him on my chest and held him. I can't remember how long it took but I held him for atleast an hour and he lived for another two years. I think the warmth brought him round.

Hamsters only live around 2-3 years. I wouldn't waste your money on a vet. Just keep it warm and comfortable before it passes.

MedievalMadness · 29/04/2023 22:01

How very sad OP. 2.5 is a good age for a hamster. It sounds as if the poor little soul is actively dyIng bless him. I think you are making the right decision if he’s the same tomorrow but if there was anyway I could I’d get him to the vet tonight to make sure he’s not suffering. Really feel for you and your little guy.

Two and a half is a decent age for a hamster. Once they go downhill like this, the end is usually imminent.
I think leaving them somewhere warm and safe overnight is fine but I doubt you will need to go to the vets in the morning.

Hamsters do hibernate. We buried my hamster and then I found this out so please make sure it's not just sleeping!

Feel for you. Poor hammy

I’ve had many hamsters since I was little and been through this a few times. Ime they go very quickly when they’re like this. I’ve always had mine super tame and held them in my hands as they went. If yours likes to be cuddled I’d do that if you can bear it :/ otherwise I’d place it somewhere warm while it passes

Onedaysomeday2023 · 29/04/2023 22:15

He's happier being left alone. Never managed to tame him. He was too much a free spirit. He would literally hiss at us !!! Didn't even know that was possible 😳

Really sorry OP. Sounds like he had a cosy, comfortable end just where he liked to be though.

DiddlyDoris · 29/04/2023 23:34
