New rat biting help

We got a pair of baby rats a few weeks ago and have been hand feeding them and getting them out daily to play. One is inquisitive and friendly, the other is more timid and bites us every time we put our hands in the cage. He hasn't bitten us when we're holding him out of the cage. At first I passed it off as he'd mistaken me for food, but he's now started to actively come over to bite. Today I've been bitten hard enough to bleed when I was changing a bit of fleece bedding and when I was stroking his brother. Has anyone got any advice on how to solve it?

Forgot to add we've taken him to the vets and he's healthy.

Hello,

I would recommend joining the Facebook group Rat Care UK for help with this.

They can bite for a few reasons such as being scared, hormonal or thinking you're food. So the answer depends on their age, where you got them and other things.
If they're young babies it's probably fear or them just "tasting" you but that Facebook page will be able to help more :)

Thanks that's useful. They're only 10 weeks old. Hopefully he might just grow out of it then.

keep calm and he’ll relax. Use a kitchen glove to get him out so you’re not scared and then cuddle/stroke/treat as normal when out. Good luck!
