Lone guinea pig - what to do?

One of our two boars passed away a couple of weeks ago. He was an old boy bonded with a younger pig after his brother died 18 months ago. Now we are left with a fairly young boar (unneutered). He's massive and although very tame, was definitely the dominant pig and could be a bit feisty with his much more chilled and older pal. We don't want to rehome him but don't want a baby really either - I think he's too dominant and also don't want to be forever caught in a guinea pig cycle.
He seems fine currently, he lives indoors in the main family room. He's eating and drinking well and is as sociable as ever. Will he be OK on his own?

It’s cruel to keep one on its own really, they can live till 8ish and that’s a long time on their own, they love company. I would contact some local Guinea pig rescues (if you have a community Facebook page that might be a good place to ask) and see if they have any that you might be able to pair him with - maybe even a neutered girl. You could also get him neutered (we’ve done this in similar circumstances) and then you have more options as they tend to bond better with girls - we have a neutered boar in with 3 girls. It’s harder to bond two boars if they haven’t been raised together.
