Bonding rabbits

Hiya, I have a spayed 10 month old girl and just adopted an un-nuetered 16 month boy. I want to bond them but everywhere is saying they both have to be nuetered, is this the case? Is it essential?

Yes, it is essential. He will be full of hormones and desperate to off load. This will not make for a positive bonding experience. You can keep them in the same area but separated until he has his op. Also he will spray if he isn't done

Can I join? I have a neutered boy and a girl waiting to be spayed. She is really aggy still!

I had the same situation. Kept them apart and got 6 weeks after he was neutered. They could see each other through the cages (we had them both inside) then we changed their cages around everyday so they got used to each other’s smells. When we introduced them he still run after her and tried to hump her constantly.

What was suggested was to give them a stressful experience and they will huddle together for safety, like a car journey or what we did put them together in the bath for an hour. It was a neutral slave, they couldn’t escape, they just sat together quietly. Then after that they were bonded and now love each other. It’s so sweet they grown each other and cuddle up. There’s still some humping usually girl bun at dinnertime, boy bun is very laid back now.

There's a Facebook group - Rabbit Bonding Advice - I recommend joining if you're on FB. Bonding is a very tricky process. I've had rescue rabbits 12 years now and still wouldn't feel confident doing it myself.
