Cockatoos - Anyone got one?

I am an avid watcher of them on You Tube - Especially Mr Max and Pebbles.

Do they normally have temper tantrums? Is it just rescue birds?

Pebbles in particularly goes into one in a spectacular manner and is a real potty mouth. She came from an abusive home and was pretty much passed around a lot, but is now (thank God) in a really caring home with a very patient man!

They are certainly intelligent birds. Mr Max usually throws a temper tantrum when he sees his carrier (vet time!) and has been seen patiently removing screws from his carrier!

We get them in the garden and they can be pretty salty to each other. A gang of them can be really loud.

Do you live in Australia? Some people on line live there and have said this.

We do get occasional flocks of parrots and they can be very noisy!

I’m in Australia. They should not be kept in cages/captivity, that’s shitty beyond belief, but obviously if always caged you can’t just release it, would have no life skills.

We get large flocks of them around, they love to sit on the fences, clotheslines, trees in the yard etc. They are super intelligent and have definite social relationships/structures and personalities. To think of them in cages - I despair 😞.

When they get going with vocalisations as a group by god they are deafening, it’s head shattering.

To be fair they are only in their cages at night (the ones I have seen on you tube). They seem to have the run of the house and I love watching them scuttling across the floor, peeping around the corner at their "Daddy or Mummy".

Cannot imagine what your washing looks like after being hung outside! We had some berry bushes in the garden and Mum would often have to re-wash the laundry!

You certainly have a lot of exotic birds there. I used to watch the Bondi vet and all manner of birds would come in.

Well, that’s okay then, certainly much better than flying about wherever they choose over large areas in the wild 🤯.

Yep, bits of washing sometimes need to be rewashed, it’s no biggie even if a sheet or whatnot, that’s life.

I know it is not ideal obvs but these are rescues in most cases so may be damaged. I do prefer birds to fly free, of course I do!
