Carefresh paper bedding

We've been using Carefresh paper bedding as an absorbent layer under towel/fleece for the past few years. It's been working well for our pampered piggies.

It seems to be out of stock most places at the moment. The bags available on Amazon look very small and expensive.

Does anyone have any alternatives they use?

I know it’s not the same but wood pellet cat litter could work for the time being?

When I had guineas I bought a shredder for theor paper - the short strip one abiut 4cm so it cannot wrap round them .
And collected anything pig safe .
Loo roll tubes , non glossy thin card , paper
Takes a lot to fill a bag though Grin

I tried kitchen paper once , that was an hour of my life I'll never get back trying to slide it into the shredder , kept getting stuck .

Horse bedding like Megazorb , or I used to buy EcoBale . Non dusty , non scented (some are treated to stop horses eating it ) but you do need the storage .

I bought new fleeces for my guinea pigs recently and they are amazing. They don’t need a second layer they leave the cage completely dry and then I wash and reuse. Could this be an option? I can share the name of the company in a PM if of interest.

I used Ikea fleece in the indoor wintercages , rough, wicked easily , no stitching round the edge ( other fleeces did , I cut it off)

Fine as a base with something absorbant under it
But hay sticks to it , no way round that

My pigs loved a paper bag full of hay or shredding to run and play in. They like to forage and hide themselves .

Hours of work shredding for them to pee and poo in it then it gets changed Grin

Not sure how it would work for pigs, but Finacard is what I use for smalll rodents/Gerbils. Dust extracted, lasts forever and great value. They do various bedding options. www.finacard.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=45

Hi blow, I'd love a recommendation for fleece liners if that's ok? I need a few spares now the girls are indoors with all this poor weather....!

I use teabag bedding for the hamster. Used it for rats too.

We use this stuff for ours. Very like carefresh (a little softer!) and much cheaper.

We've also had problems getting Carefresh, which is our bedding of choice (for guinea-pigs). Back-to-nature paper pellets also work well. Though not as cosy, they are dust-free and are OK with hay on top. We don't use fleeces.

I've also had a lot of trouble getting any bedding based on recycled paper for guinea pigs. Stock has been very haphazard since brexit. Grr.
