After being cleared as a suitable owner by the breeder I’m bringing home my first skunk this week. I’m very excited and my vets are all ready to meet him for his vaccinations.

Has anyone else got or had skunks?

Hi All!

Milo is doing really well! His Instagram is ‘The Sussex skunk’. I’ve not posted much in the last month but I will be over the Easter period.

Oh and I’m on a waiting list with two breeders for another baby Skunkie this year.

And for those who don’t have Instagram, here’s a pic from his photo shoot in Feb

Omg! He is adorable! I am going to follow him right now!

I'm blown away, who knew skunks could be kept as pets! He's a beauty.

LittleSnakes · 12/04/2022 07:39

He is actually quite cute. Never thought skunks could be pets. Does he have a cage or can he just go around your house like a cat?

RiverGod · 12/04/2022 07:47

He has free roam time, but also has a safe space enclosure. Now the weather is warming up we’ll be back on walks again soon so he can explore natural environments.

Does he free roam off the lead? Or on a lead? How do they compare in intelligence to a dog or cat? Or is he more on a rat or ferret kind of level? I’m assuming not hamster level!

RiverGod · 12/04/2022 08:22

He stays on lead in case something startles him. He does agility like a dog. He needs leading more around a course but he can follow the instructions. He’s a clever boy!

Sounds fun! I’m not really keen on caged pets but it sounds like he has more freedom than say a hamster in a tiny cage.

HardRockOwl · 12/04/2022 08:37

Just when I thought I'd read everything 😀

RiverGod · 12/04/2022 12:22

His enclosure is just his safe space away from my cats and with his bed and toilet. He’s very clean and loves snuggles under the duvet with me.

Hi OP (Rivergod)

I know this is an ancient thread so my apologies for the necromancy but i'm in the market for a pet skunk now.

Struggling to find a breeder but a local breeder to me is quoting £700 for one! my online research says i should have been expecting to pay maybe £4-500 so I just wanted to know how much you bought the cute little rascal for?

I know inflation is a thing since 2021 but £700 is a tough pill to swallow and I might just have to say no.
