Guinea pigs Vs Rabbit

We are looking at getting either a rabbit or guinea pigs.
I'm torn as to what would suit us best.
We have two boys who are looking for an affectionate pet sadly cats and dogs are not suitable for us.
I know GP need to be in pairs, but I'm now seeing rabbits should be in pairs too?
Any advice? We have a garden, not a big one and space inside for a cage if needed.
Any pros and cons?

We had some GPS and honestly they are just like mobile draft excluders. Very dull. Mercifully some one took them off us.

You need to draw yourself up a list

There is no "Right" but many pros/cons

Inside /outside
Boars/sows/mixed (neutered boar)
Piglets/adults
Coat type/breed -smooths are easiest . Abbys are prettiest (IMO) DD was very allergic to Rex and Teddy . Long haired are more work.
The more exotic (like Satins or Skinny) the trickier
What bedding
One level or two level accomodation
C&C are good (grids) you can make all sorts of shapes but they need a liner . A plastic base with the metal bar top contained the hay better

DD and I had 4 boars and 4 sows over a period of years .
2 of the boars were castrated (1 we had done , 1 done in Rescue) to live with the females .

At one stage we had B/S/S and a S/S pair (who wouldn't bond . They were a pair when they joined us and seemed to want to keep it that way)

There's a risk with castration. If you get 2 boars then you only neuter if you want them sterile . It doesn't change their temper unlike other animals .
If you have boars , 2 is the magic number . Don;t believe anyone who tries to get you to have 3 .
And if you have a mixed group , only 1 boar . You can have many sows , they like a hareem . You just need the space .
