5 month old Rabbit suddenly pooing outside cage

We got an indoor rabbit in February and she is outside of her cage for alot of the day, we leave her cage open in the living room whenever we are around

She is 5 and a half months, and this week she has started rubbing her chin on everything (which I understand from Google is scent marking) and also randomly pooing everywhere (when before this she would use her litter tray). I don't even think she is using her litter tray in her cage.

She has also gotten alot lot more friendly in the last week, and will sit still and be stroked whereas usually she would not sit still long enough.

Please tell me this is all linked and once she is spayed she will stop pooing everywhere? I have an appointment with vets tomorrow for her vaccinations and to book in the spay.

Thanks

How big is the litter tray in comparison to the rabbit? They don’t tend like trays that are too deep or that are too small (length/breadth wise). Have you changed the material you use in it, and are you sure it was trained to use one in the first place? Rabbits love being stroked, that’s very normal.

Nothing has changed about the litter tray which is what is puzzling me, she was definitely litter trained to use it before as all of her poos were in there, she would hop back in and use it then hop back out.

I pointed out the change in friendliness incase it was linked, she never never let us stroke her before. :-)

I thought rabbits need a rabbit friend. Hopefully she's ok and the vet might know what's going on with her.

At 5 months her hormones are kicking in - congratulations your baby rabbit is now a teenager ;)

Spaying should help, not always a guarantee, but should help :)

Thanks Bunnygeek I thought it was the teenage bit but wasn't sure :-)

Hello, just thought I would pop back on here because I like it when people give updates- vet confirmed rabbit is nice and healthy. She advised spaying may help with the pooing but recommended another little box out of her cage too.
