Heat pads

I’ve bought a couple of those plastic microwaveable discs for my outdoor rabbits. Just looking for some tips on how to use them. They have thick straw beds with banks up the walls. Do I put them under the straw or on top? Do they eat the fleece covers? Are they better removed? And how hot do you do them?

I do mine the full 7 mins recommended on the disc. I flip it over halfway though so the heat is evenly distributed.

My guys did nibble the cover a bit so I now pop it under their fleece and straw bedding and they seem happy with that.

Thanks. I’ve got to work out where to put them. I know one of them sleeps downstairs, but not sure about the other.

Mine tend to congregate around the heat pad and snuggle. I pop them where they like to chill out and then they choose whether to sleep there or not.

If you have a traditional hutch then the bedroom is a good option as it tends to help keep heat in especially with extra straw.

It’s a two floored hutch that opens onto a plastic greenhouse that is full of hay and straw and acts as in indoor run. We’ve put a Perspex panel on the front of the cage downstairs immediately under the bedroom to block weather and draughts (not on the photo), and one bunny sleeps there. The other often sleeps upstairs at the top of the stairs, but not in the bedroom. We have a horse rug over the hutch On cold nights to insulate it even more. I’ve only ever once seen one in the bedroom bit, they just don’t seem to go in.

Perhaps I’ll try one at the top and one at the bottom of the stairs.
