So just taken one of our guinea pigs to the emergency vets as really wasn’t very well, not eating, laying on side and wheezing. Noticed him a little off yesterday but he really went down hill suddenly today and so has been put to sleep.
We obviously had 2 and thjnk they are about 5 years old. We have had them 2.5 years and the rescue thought they were about 2 or so when we got them.
Really don’t know what to do about the remaining one. We don’t any to get into a perpetual cycle of getting a younger pig to bond. Our two boys would go through periods of fighting and having to have the cage sectioned off for a couple of days so not sure wether we would be able to successfully bond out remaining one anyway. Don’t really want to give him away but I suppose if that’s what’s needed we will have to. I’m hoping that he may be ok on his own as getting older and like I said didn’t have a close bond with the other one (they were rescued from a nursery, so we’re kept together)

Sorry you've lost one.

We were in the same situation and they were the same age as yours. Ours was fine on his own. I think he was actually quite pleased to have all the veg to himself to be honest. We did have another two males in a different cage in the same room though. I'm not sure if that was important to him or not.

He since died so we now have the other two males left. If one dies we won't be getting any more. Mine are indoors though so they have us for company ( also not sure if that's important to them or not!).

A friend is only her last guinea pig. She was an outdoor pig and has been brought in now for the company.

I was in this roll for 15 years -down to last guinea pig and then ended up always getting one to keep the other company etc -Age 5 is good for a piggies -my eldest was 7 but my youngest just 2 when they died.
He is not going to go on much longer age wise -just keep him on his own. I've just given our last one away into a pack of other girls and I'm happy with that.

We did the same with our last single male, he's now living in a large playhouse with about 10 females having been neutered first. I think he's happy Grin
