Syrian hamster acting strangely

A few months back my daughters hamster was really ill. We didn't think she would survive. We think it was possibly some sort of infection. She was on two lots of antibiotics, one for three weeks. After this she picked up loads and then gained a tonne of weight. I'd changed her food as when she was on antibiotics she didn't seem to like her usual food.
Since then she's been eating and drinking but sleeping much more.
Her coat is in good condition and everything else seems normal. She's just always asleep. If dd gets her out she will play briefly and then go back to sleep on whoever is holding her.
I've read about hibernating but I don't think dds room gets cold enough?
Any ideas?

How old is she? I think with the time of year and it getting dark, hamsters sleep more.

Hamsters are really rubbish at hibernating. hibernate.

They can go into torpor, where they look asleep, but their body temperature is too low and they can die unless they are warmed up. Mine actually looked dead before I wrapped her in a towel on a hot water bottle and brought her back to life.

She would often just lay down in the middle of her cage and go completely still - I must have brought her back about half a dozen times.

Not sure where that spare “hibernate” came from!

I think it could still be hibernation given how little light we get at this time of year. How much light does she get in your DD's room? It's good that it's warm because as a pp said they can get too cold to warm themselves up. Hope she's ok.

We've lost a couple of hamster sadly due to hibernating badly. Make sure the room temperature is 20 degrees c, plenty of light in the day time - we leave bedroom light on in the day, and a good variety of food ad lib.

Sadly it looks like she's passed away. I was at work and got a call. I've got home and left her on a hot water bottle overnight to check if she's just not almost comatose.
Thank you for your help.
