Guinea pig accomodation advice

I’m hoping to get some guinea pigs and am trying to research the best options.

The plan is to house the piggies in a shed (it’s light and airy, the window doesn’t get direct sunlight - and it’s unheated) So I am wondering what I need to house them in within the shed?

I was looking at this
www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/rabbit_cage/140_cm_cages/570171

and wondered if it would be suitable? Or should i be thinking more of a traditional hutch type thing?

In very cold weather we’d move them either into another heated shed or bring them inside...

So with guinea pigs, they like the same temperatures as us, and don’t cope very well with changes in temp from day to night where it can drop 10+ degrees. So have a think about if you would like to sleep in an in heated shed?
Is there anywhere indoors you can keep them?
Guinea pigs are also very social animals, and even with each other for company, would miss the social interaction. Ours are constantly chatting away to us (usually asking for food!)
In terms of the cage you linked, it’s big enough for two guinea pigs (the minimum number of piggies to have, they shouldn’t be kept alone), maybe three at a push.
You will need to make sure they have enough places to hide, and warm pods/similar to snuggle into when it’s cold.
The guinea pig forum is the best place for advice I’ve found, there are some really knowledgeable bods on there and very happy to answer questions. And they have some great help guides if you are new to Guinea pigs.
There’s also advice on where to get piggies from, and you can search for a local rescue maybe? Please don’t buy from pets and home or the internet x
Hope you enjoy your new fuzzy friends.

Lord, so many typos! Hopefully you get the gist!

Hello, thanks for that its very useful.

I had lots of guinea pigs as a child but lots has moved on from there...

I am looking at rescues, but currently there aren’t any options locally to me. Also a lot seem to only have older piggies and I would worry taking on a 3-4+ years piggie as they don’t live long enough anyway 😢. ( My last one lived 8 years...)

I’ll check out the forum, thanks

That's too small for guinea pigs. 10 square metres is recommended for two pigs. This is our set up for two boars (who need more space then two sows)

It's a a c and c modular cage, you buy the panels and join it together yourself, it's fairly cheap as you can buy them to make storage units. Ours cost us about £60 all in with a base we got in a diy store for less than five pounds for 18sq feet.

The cage isn't 18 sq feet by the way, the stuff came in that size and we cut it down.
