Guinea pig has a lump

Cuddling my piggie this evening and I’ve realised she has a big lump on her back. I know they are prone to cysts, it will be a cyst won’t it? Not something more sinister? I don’t think my kids* could take a sick guinea pig on top of everything else being so rubbish!

I am going to call the vets tomorrow, I just want to freak out here.

One of mine has had a cyst for over a year. It isn’t growing and it causes him no problems so the vet advised just leaving it.

It’s worth getting checked but isn’t necessarily a problem.

Ours has had one for over two years, quite big, on the underside her neck. We had it checked out, she was given some antibiotics in case it was an abscess. It wasn't and she's perfectly fine and happy.

That’s good to know, thank you. I know prey animals hide illness, but she honestly seems fine. She’s getting on a bit, but was a rescue so I’m not 100% sure of her age. I don’t think she’s older than 3 though.

How is the piggie Stooic ?

I;ve had some pigs with fatty lumps , usually in their neck skin, or on the flank or on the belly .
Fatty lumps are usually firm, smooth and slow to grow , though you can sudddenly find them and think "What's this" ?

One of my females developed a sudden lump in her chin area , I took her to the Vet thinking it was an abcess but when it was lanced it was found to be tumouros
It grew so big so quick (the Vet reckoned) because it was bleeding into the lump. and it was noticeable because the neck is so saggy My pigs were indoors at the time , we checked them several times a day so I noticed this and got her to the Vet as soon as I could .

Unfortunately because of the size m her age and where it was and it was vascular , we made the sad decision to euthanise .
But she went to the Vet with her cagemate and ate food right to the end and died peacefully with me holding her .
I was a bawling snotty mess .

But other lumpy pigs have pootled happily and lumpily through life !

Crossing all paws for a good result .

She's ok, I couldn't get her an appointment until Monday morning but as she seems absolutely fine I'm just keeping a close eye on her. She's her usual demanding and vocal self. I had the audacity to rustle something near her without producing veggies so she has been roundly scolding me this morning. And she's still being as bolshy to her pig husband as ever.

It was an abscess so has been cleaned out and I have medication for her. Hopefully it will all heal nicely, she's back in a week to see how it's going.
