Hi any vets on here?

I got a baby bunny to bond with my young bunny last year.

Got on well but within 8 weeks my other bunny suddenly passed away.
He was a year old fully vaccinated.
So I was left with my new bunny who was obviously Still young.

I remember at the time thinking I wonder if my new bunny was a carrier for some disease ??

Just seem strange that as soon as I got the other bunny my other bunny died.
Well I've come down this morning and he has died now!!
He is 11 months old.
Fully vaccinated.

Was he a carrier? And it got him in the end?
Is it possible?
I have had rabbits for manny years, they have lived till very old age.
Just seems weird when I brought a new bunny in. They have both died!!
Hope someone on here. Could give me some information.
Thank you xx

I'm sorry for your loss. Not a vet. I lost my bunny on Thurs, she was 5 months fully vaccinated, healthy. She died almost instantly under anaesthetic.

How awful. Do you have foxes in the area? It seems strange that a rabbit could suddenly die without showing symptoms unless something shocked them.

(Not average but have rabbits)

Not a vet! Sorry

Thank you for your replies

I've just rang the vet
I'm going to get a post-mortem done on him
I need to know what he died of
Especially need to know as his hutch mate died the same way same age

That's good can u keep us posted as I am soon to get a companion for my neutered female

Ours died at 20 months, fine in the morning when I fed him & let him out for a couple of hours, went to check he had enough water for overnight & he was dead. Our vet told me they are very good at covering up if they are ill, or it could have been a heart attack. Since then I have done more reading & discovered that rabbits have many more health conditions than I ever knew about & are a lot more complicated to keep.

Hi just spoke to vet the post-mortem would cost £400 and it's not guaranteed to find out the course of death.
So just going to bury in my garden with my other bunnies.

Such a sad day as he was such a character

They are good at hiding it, they do it so predators don't think they are weak and so an easy target. Thanks

Very Sad . I've never kept rabbits but I've had guinea-pigs and they dont show illness ( there are very subtle signs that you can twig onto , like the way they sit if they're ill)

It is most likely you will never know .

Could ir be something they have both eaten?
Is there any spraying of weeds in your NDN gardens ?
The hay - any trace of mould or mildew ?

What were their droppings like , any sign of gut statis ?

£400 is a lot to not even get an answer . It will rule things out but you might not know .

Where did you get your rabbit from? Can you ask the previous owners if they have spotted anything ( though you need to word it carefully )

My healthy , young boar died a few years back, literally shit liquid . He went to the Vet , no real answers , tried infusions , medication, didn't help . His 2 wives were fine .
I phoned the Rescue he came from to let them know ...they had lost a piggie under the same conditions , none others affected . So totally random but I wracked my brains trying to find answers .

Flowers the loss of an animal is tough .
