Guinea Pig teeth

I have noticed today that one of my guinea pigs has lost his top teeth, bottom ones are fine.

I put some carrot in and saw he was struggling to pick it up so gave him a check. I've shredded lettuce and grated carrot, which he is eating.

I have no idea what happened, poor thing. I know guinea pigs hide pain, but I'm shocked it could happen.

They have pets at home nuggets and fresh veg and hay.

Do I need to do anything or will they grow back? I've weighed him so I can monitor his weight, also going to get some vitamin c for them both.

They will grow back , rodents have ever growing teeth .
Sometimes they break 1 or 2 .

Shredded veg , peeled , salad .
He can still eat .Guinea-pigs don't let anything stand in the way of food if they can help it Wink

Make sure he still has his water , hay , pellets .

I will wager a bet it was chewing the cage bars that did it , possibly the water bottle

What always worried me was when the tooth comes out the other end ......ouch Shock

Thank you for your reply. They do like to chew their plastic houses so that could have done it.

He's eating hay and the shredded vegetables so fingers crossed all will be fine.

I got some mint which is their absolute favourite, he was a bit slow but munched through a lot 🙂
