Need a new slide for brand new Hamster Heaven cage

its a long shot but does anyone happen to have a spare? Or know where I can get one?

Literally just got delivered today and DC2 decides she's perfectly capable of building it herself, when the clip has mysteriously broken off so it won't attach at to the platform 🙄 I tried superglue but the plastic is too thin so I just covered my fingers (and kitchen worktop) in glue.

I know this is a popular cage on here, so hoping someone might able to point me in the direction of a new one?

Thanks.

Tbh our hamster never uses the slide, hops up and down onto the platform! So it may not be the end of the world.

BittersweetMemories · 28/08/2020 18:05

Yeah my hamster never uses the slide either, she climbs up the bars to get to the platform

Yeah ours broke v early on too. But again, was never used by the hamster!

Make sure you always lock the over 2 bars as they can escape. I think they should make this clearer! Also, the wheel is apparently not big enough for a syrian hamster as they can hurt their backs. It's a great cage though

"the over 2 bars" - do you mean the bits where the bottom tray clips on to the wire frame of the cage?

Good to know about the wheel! We'd bought a separate (silent) one but its similar size. Do you have a recommendation for a bigger one? (but quiet - cage is in my daughter's room and she struggles with sleep as it is).

Thank you all for your replies. We are hopefully picking up a hamster this weekend so will see how s/he gets on without the ladder/slide. We've put the igloo house underneath the edge of the platform just now until s/he learns to be a bit more efficient at climbing.

If it's a new baby hamster, he or she will be fine for a while with that wheel. I bought a Trixie wheel off Amazon (I think less than a tenner?) in a larger size. If you end up getting a Russian hamster, they are smaller and will be fine. Put a tiny drop of Oliver oil on the wheel at the back and it won't squeak or make a noise. Hamsters are generally noisy at night though. I could hear her even when she was in the other room.

Yes, hook the cage door over the second row of bars at the top.

There is a Facebook group I found really useful when we first got our hammy 'syrian hamsters uk'.

Enjoy! We struggled to tame ours so we could handle. She hates being handled but does let my daughter stroke her. We have tried everything! She is a biter. We look after a neighbours hamsters who are both boys and they are much more chilled. I had read boys are often easier-if you get a choice that might be something to bear in mind.

Just a warning, even with a quiet wheel hamsters make a lot of noise at night. Mine would chew the bars and bang toys into the side of the cage.

Yeah we know they can be noisy wee things. We just lost her previous hamster recently after nearly 2.5 years, but are now more aware of the safety and size standards, so starting afresh with a new, better cage etc. Previous hamster wasn't a huge fan of the wheel, we just had a flat saucer type one for her to use in her play pen, but was always far more interested in chewing and climbing.

It's another Syrian we are going for, as they prefer to live alone and are generally less speedy and easier to handle 😆 DD did an absolutely amazing job with taming the previous hamster, and has been swotting up looking for tricks and tips to help with this next one in case she just got lucky last time.

Will look at the Trixie wheel, and the olive oil tip too, thanks 😊
