Rabbits are getting spayed

Hi

My two girls are getting spayed on the 8th. Right now one of them if very sooky and the other is quite happy doing her own thing. I guess what I'm wondering is whether anyone has noticed any change to their rabbit's/rabbits' temperaments after they were spayed? More cuddly/less cuddly?

Thanks

Generally in my experience it doesn’t really change rabbit behaviour in females.
In males it does calm them down sometimes.
It’s mainly done to prevent uterine cancer and so a female can have a male companion and live happily without reproducing.
Good luck for their operations, always scary. I
Still have one little boy left to neuter.

@Crazybunnylady123 thanks for your response. We got them from pets at home at the same time so they've been so used to each other since day one and are very dependent on one another. So I think that's just making me worry even more as one would be lost without the other. I'm sure it'll all be fine x

I had a couple of giant Rabbits a few years ago. I got the male nuetered. I saw no difference in him. His temperament and behaviour was the same.

My female rabbits were spayed 10 days ago and have been fighting ever since so have now been completely separated. I had no idea this could happen but apparently it's quite common so just be aware. The sisters had been together since birth and are over a year old.
Guidance to me has been to keep them separate for 3 months and then try to re-bond.

@Sitdowncupoftea thank you

@MrsPussinBoots oh no, I'm sorry to hear that! I have heard that from a few people now actually, hoping that doesn't happen 🤞🏻 I hope their reintroduction goes well when the time comes x

Well that's the two little terrors dropped off. The house is far too quiet without them! ☹️

When the rescue took in my girl as a stray, she was extremely aggressive, hormonal and her behaviour was probably why someone dumped her.

She was spayed, and has now settled into a friendly, bossy little under-foot madam. The hormonal aggression has vanished and she was easily bonded with my boy.

Fingers and paws crossed for successful ops! Make sure you are given pain medication when they come home.

Thanks @bunnygeek

We are home now. They've had their first round of pain meds at the vets and they've given me pain relief to give them starting tomorrow morning.

Also have some liquid food to syringe feed them with if need be. They're very groggy and understandably not talking to me right now 😂

Mine doesn't dig tunnels since she was spayed.and she's more lazy so I noticed quite a difference.

HansBanans · 11/07/2020 10:10

Thanks @nitgel. They've been quite lazy the past few days but I've put that down to them just recovering from their ops. They're slowly but surely getting back to their versions of normal Smile

I think we need to see a picture of them at some point OP! Glad they're doing OK Smile

I miss my bun so much, she was ten when she passed last year and had been my little best mate for that whole decade.

She was quite aggressive before she was spayed and (not sure whether related or coincidence) from a few weeks after she was an absolute dream.

In fact this description from PP is exactly right:

She was spayed, and has now settled into a friendly, bossy little under-foot madam.

Very loving, lots of boops and licks, but still a cheeky attitude - which I liked! Here she is bless her, miss her loads.

@backseatcookers I'm so sorry for your loss. It's crazy how big a part of your life they become x

Here's a pic of the two little monsters in a cuddle puddle this morning. Ignore the poops, they've decided they don't want to use their litter box at the moment!

How are the buns doing @HansBanans?

HansBanans · 14/07/2020 11:23

@backseatcookers they're doing really well thank you! It's almost as though they've not had their surgeries! Grin I was woken at about half 4 this morning by then running around and playing, so I don't think I'm flavour of the month with the neighbours today 😂 x
