New Guinea pig owner, help needed

I brought home two female 8 week old guinea pigs around 1pm this afternoon. They are indoor, nice large cage, which I have put sawdust, Timothy hay, guinea pig nuggets and some wood toys into. There are two water bottles which I have added vitamin c supplement to.

They initially hid away for most of the afternoon but in the last hour they have been getting brave and going exploring. Plenty of hay eating and I put four pieces of broccoli in which they have ate too.

However neither of them have drank any water and I’m starting to get a little worried! I don’t want to go to bed until I know they have found their bottles and used them. Have I done something wrong? How long can they go without water before getting unwell?

Also I know they need dark leafy greens daily, but I’m not sure of the amount I should give them?

Our local pet shop have no hay, I've been to three others and none! Now what ?!

You might need to see if any stables can sell you some hay ( A bale has I think 8 leafs /leaves )
Equine hay is harsher than pet hay so you'd need to shake it through a bit .
Store the rest in a dry , dust proof cover .

Or those hay cookies ( The Range or Wilkos had them when I kept piggies)

Readi-Grass isn't the same as hay but it's a good addition.

Can you cut them some fresh grass from the garden? Wash , dry and let it come to room temperature .

I never had the worry of these shortages when I had my guineas but one year there was a huge fire which lost a load of hay locally . But I was able to get some from further afield .

Good luck in searching .

Adorable guinea pigs. I only have one at the moment and he has been very sad but perked up recently thankfully.

Fingers crossed I am getting two 4kg sacks for £16 tomorrow - being delivered to the doorstep as well.
I put them out in the run today, it was the first time the babies had been out and they didn't quite know what to make of it.

Hi - can I join this thread?! We got 2 baby piggies about 3 weeks ago. They are adorable, still a bit skittish but warming up to us. Unfortunately found out on the weekend they have ringworm so dealing with that right now! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I have noticed that they just don't drink though - they have a water bottle and a small bowl but nothing goes. Wee'ing plenty so I'm guessing they are fine and getting the liquid from their veg...
